Serene Scenery Sunday

Ha roo, pups and cool cats! Zim here today with Serene Scenery Sunday. Dave and I did a lot of looking around this week to bring you the most peaceful pix we could come up with.

Dave and me

Let's have a look around, shall we?

Nothing like one of our spectacular Kansas sunsets to help you find your inner zen! Check this one out:

Storm over the Flint Hills

Oh, sure. You might be thinking, "ZIM! There's a storm out there!" And you're right. There was.  Here's the good part ...  it made our temps drop a good 30 degrees for a few hours! It was wonderful! Us boys took Mom out in the rain and we all just stood there for a while until we realized standing out in the thunder and lightning might not be the best idea. It was really refreshing, though!

Remember the other day I shared a post with my friend Fluffy Black Cat? Dave saw her recently, too.

Dave and a zen-ful Fluffy Black Cat

Doesn't she just look like she's thoroughly at peace? She was laying under our pine, watching birdies! I like laying out there, too!

Remember I told you that Dave and I got to go for a ride on National Stare At Your Biped Day? Mom kind of took another one of her "wrong turns" and we ended up ... well, we're not sure. But we saw this beautiful barn and cool horses:

IMG_3391 KS horse barn

It made all of us feel very peaceful!  Here's the same photo with some cool effects on it:

IMG_3392 KS horse barn

Very Kansas-y!

How about another sunset?

IMG_3359 28 JUL11 Sunset

That was from a couple nights ago. We didn't get any rain, but other parts of our area did. At least we got a nice sunset out of the deal!

Every time Dave and I go out front in the evenings now, we check for Fluffy Black, to see if she's out under the pines.

"There she is, Zim!  Over in the Bully Cat's yard!"
"She sure looks relaxed, doesn't she, Dave?"

Look around today, everyone!  I'm sure you'll find something serene, something to help you find that inner zen!

Cool Toy Tutorial

Woo, everypup and everycat!  It's me, Dave, here with a great tutorial for you on how to stay cool AND use a fun toy !  Ready to go?

First, get a Chilly Bone. Have your biped read the directions, then pop it into the bag (it comes with its own plastic bag!) and put it in the freezy part of the magic cold box. It won't take long for it to be ready. I suggest napping on an air conditioner vent while you wait. We've had our Chilly Bone so long that I can't remember exactly how long it takes the first time - we just keep mine in the magic cold box so it's always ready to GO!!!

IMG_3369 Dave
CHILLY BONE TIME!!!

I confess, being from Texas as I am, the first time Mom brought up the words "Chilly Bone", I thought she meant "Chili Bone" and I got really excited!  Wrong kind of chili, but still really fun!  (And cold, not hot!)

Anyway, see the sort of icy frost up on the mid-section of the bone?  First you need to lick that off:

IMG_3376 Dave
"Mmm!  Frosty and COLD!"

That part is really fun and helps cool you down! Make sure you get all the frosty stuff off!

IMG_3377 Dave
"Did I get it all?"

After that, give it a good chew. These are really great for little puppers who are teething, for senior pups, for pups who aren't really aggressive chewers ... and for guys like me who (in addition to being "senior") have had dental work and need to go easy on what we are allowed to chew on. It feels really nice on my areas where I've had tooth extractions!

Next up, have your biped give it a throw:

IMG_3372 Dave
"It's good to go, Mom - honest!"

My mom always makes sure I haven't started any holes or anything, then we toss it around a bit.

IMG_3373 Dave

Do you like my action shot?  Sorry it's blurry!

Have another go at chomping on it:

IMG_3378 Dave
"I my Chilly Bone!"

Once you've had a nice, long playtime, have your biped stick it back in the baggie and put it in the magic cold box so it'll be ready for next time!

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.  What are all of you doing to stay cool?

Luv,
Dave

Photo Finish Friday - National Stare At Your Biped Day

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me - Zim.  Did all of you get the word that yesterday was National Stare At Your Biped Day?  Oh, sure, my mom actually accused me of making that up, but from what I read on her FaceBook account, a lot of my friends were participating, too -- so it wasn't just me!

After a fun-packed morning, I decided that no matter where Mom was, I'd stare at her.  I mean,  you know, I figured I'd participate in National Stare At Your Biped Day (NSAYBD).  I gave it my best while she was at the computer. Check out the special effects she did to this one:

DSCN2158fX1 Zim
Me, celebrating National Stare At Your Biped Day

Mom must have liked being stared at, because she took half a million pictures of me. Here's another; she did the special effects to both of these with PhotoShop Elements 9.

Me again, on NSAYBD

Mom realized at some point she was missing a golden opportunity for an outdoor photo shoot, so we went outside and took a few shots with that big plant medley on the front porch.  Check this out:

Mom took advantage of NSAYBD and took this picture

I was only looking at her because of NSAYBD. It made her really happy to get smiling at the camera.

I kept up the staring through the afternoon and finally, FINALLY Mom got the mind-meld message I had been sending. Here we are, heading out the door to go for a RIDE!!!

IMG_3349 Zim
"Let's hit the road, Mom!"

Notice I kept the stare going! It was kind of taxing on me, as you can imagine, so after our ride (Dave went with us, by the way!), I had to get some down-time.

IMG_3356 Zim
A very contented me, after a day-long NSAYBD celebration

As many of you know, we Siberian Huskies work well as a team - it's in our blood.  We're team players all the way!  Dave could tell I needed my break, so he stepped into the harness and took his turn pulling the National Stare At Your Biped Day sled.  So to  speak  write.

IMG_3364 Dave
Dave - picking up the harness and pulling the NSAYBD sled!

A great team effort, don't you think?

Did you celebrate NSAYBD yesterday?  What were you able to tool out of your biped?  If you forgot to celebrate yesterday, give it a spin today!  It's great fun!

Deck Positions

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me, Zim!  As many of you know, Dave and I love to chill out on the deck after our morning walk.  We have our "cool down" while Mom and Dad grab some coffee.  It's just great being out there where it's shady and where we can hear and smell everything!  I thought I'd show you some of our favorite positions out there, OK?

This is probably our favorite position:

DSCN2057 Dave & Zim
Dave and me

You've seen that pose before. Does it look like we're laying close together? Don't let Mom's camera angle fool you! This is the real layout:

IMG_3264 Dave & Zim
Dave and me again

Dave and I are tight as can be, but we respect each other's space! That little landing down there is pretty much my private domain. I love it down there.  Dave likes the high ground.

Dave also likes to move over to the other railing, and cover the corner, like so:

IMG_3259 Dave
Dave

We really like being right at the railing, where we have the best view -- unless we're getting ear scratchies or something.

I know you're also familiar with my pose by that railing - where I like to rest my snooter on it and watch for birdies. For today's post, I thought I'd show it to you from a different angle!

Me, Zim - hanging out on the deck

I hope you enjoyed hanging out on the deck with us this morning and seeing how we vary our routine.  Stay cool, everyone!

Special Guest Star!

Woo, everypup and everycat!  It's me - Dave!  We've been watching episodes of the old (1967-68) TV series "The Prisoner" at night lately.  It's a really cool show and I totally thought in the first one we watched last night the prisoner was going to get free!  Of course he didn't, or the show would have been over right there... you know how that works!  Anyway, we settled in for another episode and I couldn't believe who the special guest star was!!!

IMG_3282 Dave
"Wait a minute!  Is that who I think it is?!?"

Right there with that cool Patrick McGoohan guy!

IMG_3281 Dave
"Hey, Dad!  Would you put this on paws  pause, please?
Zim!  Check this out!!!"

I knew Zim would love this!

IMG_3275 Zim
"Wowzers!!!  I can't believe this!  I have to get closer!"

He couldn't believe it, either!

 IMG_3289 Zim & Dave
"I really think it could be her, Dave!!!"

Tell me that doesn't look just like Zim's bestest friend, Huffle Mawson!!!

IMG_3292 Zim & Dave
"I knew she was cool, but I had no idea she was a 60's TV star!"

Can you imagine being on a really cool TV show like that!?!  I can't believe Huffle never said anything about it!  Zim will have to ask her about it!

Oh.  And speaking of asking questions...

IMG_3251 Dave
"Who is Number One?!?"

Maybe Huffle will know since she was on the show.  I'll have to ask her.

Luv,
Dave

Serene Scenery Sunday

Woo, everypup and almosteverycat! It's me, Dave, here with Serene Scenery Sunday. Zim just showed you some garden-y pix yesterday, so I thought I'd show you something that I got to do after that photo shoot that really helped me find that inner serenity!  Before I get started, for those who asked, that planter Zim showed you is full of Coleus, Petunias, Sweet Potato Vines, and one pink Geranium (minus a few petals here and there that it didn't need anyway).  (And I have no idea what happened to them.)

Anyway, Mom took me out front in the shade next!  Here's what I got to do:

DSCN2077 Dave
"Mom?!?  Is that my Squeaky Newspaper?!?!?"

This is a reenactment, as Mom didn't have the camera the first time. Works for me! More time with my Squeaky Newspaper!

DSCN2081 Dave
"Did I mention it SQUEAKS?!?!"

It does. It has a good, strong squeaker. I love that in a toy!

Oh... wait. Look over there -

DSCN2082 Dave

See that? Look higher.

DSCN2059 Morning Moon

That's what the moon looked like in the morning. Pretty, don't you think?

OK, good enough. Let's get back to ...

DSCN2089 Dave
"Throw it, Mom!  Throw it!!!"

It made me feel so good to play with my Squeaky Newspaper! Very serene!  Even in the shade, it was mighty toasty, so after I played with Mom for a while...

DSCN2076 Dave
"Time to take this party inside!"

...I thought we should move inside!

Stay cool, everyone! And remember to keep it serene!

Dave

I've Been Accused!!!

Ha roo, pups and cool cats! It's me, Zim. Grab this by the neck and give it a little shake - I've been accused of sticking my snooter into the Geraniums!!! Can you believe that?!?! Crazy talk! It all started yesterday morning...

Mom went out to do the morning garden-watering stuff and wanted a picture of these:

IMG_3202 Planters on the porch

Oh, I know what you're thinking. She's GOT a picture of them right THERE! But no. She wanted to... oh, I have no idea.  But she wanted to shoot them again. Whatever. I offered to go help.

Mom hooked my leash to the front door handle, then backed up to start taking photos.

IMG_3212 Zim
"Wow, all these plants are getting so big!  Hmmm... what's this in here?"

I thought I'd show some interest.  You know, just to be polite.

IMG_3220 Zim
"Oh... yeah!  And over here!  What's this?!!?"

Before I knew it, I heard those words. You know them by now - "NononoZimmieno!"  I figured Mom was just cheering me on, then I heard this CRAZY accusation that I was sticking my snooter into the Geraniums and trying to eat them!!!

IMG_3214 Zim
"Me?"

I've heard this before (a few times.... here and there...) and I just couldn't believe it!

IMG_3216 Zim
"I can't believe you'd accuse me of such a thing!"

It was so outrageous that I wouldn't even comment on it one way or the other. I mean - REALLY!

After a bunch of "tut-tut"ing and getting my snooter brushed off for some reason, I decided to sit and pose nicely by the posies:

IMG_3221 Zim
"Here's the money shot, Mom!"

Gardening is so much fun, isn't it? Oh... wait!

IMG_3219 Zim
"Wait!  What's this?"

OK, never mind. I thought I saw something in there.  (Check out Davy in the window!  Ha roo!)

Are you helping tend your gardens?  Remember to keep cool!

Photo Finish Friday!

Woo, everypup and everycat.  It's me, Dave, here with Photo Finish Friday!  Today I have some cool pix Mom took while we were out relaxing on the deck.

IMG_3182 Dave

Who's ready to take a look? Mom did a special effects shot to show you how toasty it is here:

IMG_3189 Dave and Zim

Of course, me and Zim are cool. Ha woo.

Here's a different effect on a pic of me staring at Maude the Bully Cat's house:

IMG_3195 Dave

I didn't see her anywhere, but I know she's out there somewhere.

Here's Zim, surveying our back yard:

IMG_3184 Zim

Can you see the smile on his face? How about a smile on my face?

IMG_3186 Dave

Special effects courtesy of a new iPhone app, CamWow! I think "CamWoo" would be a better name, but no one asked me.

Just one more thing, before I sign off.
