Afternoon Patrol

Woo, everypup and everycat!  It's me, Dave!  Yesterday was another incredibly mild day here, so after lunch, Zim and I sent Mom a mind-meld message that we should go on a nice, long walk.  We're very practiced at this, so before we knew it, we were off.  Want to come with us?  Let's GO!

Here we are by some cool trees.  Lots of messages are left here, so we always stop and check to catch up on all the news of the neighborhood.

IMG_6847 Dave and Zim

We went all over the place, then started heading up the hills back to Ao4 Headquarters.  This one biped walked past us and didn't even say anything, let alone stop and give us ear scratchies.  Remember what we said about that yesterday?  Check out Zimmie:

IMG_6851 Zim
"Hey!  Hey, lady!  Where are you going?"

We couldn't believe she just went past us like that!  (And of course Zim's message was strictly a mind-meld -- we don't bark at people!)

Anyway, we shook it off and kept going.  Mom reassured us that it was that person's loss and said she'd give us extra attention herself.  Woo!  Look at the smiles on our faces after she said that:

IMG_6852 Zim
Zim.  Smiling.

IMG_6855 Dave
Me.  Dave.  Smiling.

When we were almost at the top of the hill, somebody started shilly-shallying.  Or is that dilly-dallying?  Or lolly-gagging?  Whatever the case, I had to spring into action to get him to get it in gear!

IMG_6856 Dave and Zim

That's really the best way to get him going.  And it's mighty fun, too.  Nothing wrong with having a little fun along the way, right?  And a little husky wrestling spree.  Woo.

Here's Zim, enjoying our sunny afternoon:

IMG_6857 Zim
"Me... and... my... shaaaaaaaaaa... dow!  Strolling down the avenue...."

Have I mentioned lately how fun it is to have a kid brother?

IMG_6861 Dave and Zim
"Hey, look, Dave!  My shadow moved when we turned the corner!"

He makes every walk an interesting adventure!

Thanks for coming with us, everybody!

Dave

We're Versatile!

Woo, everypup and everycat!  Dave here, with my kid brother Zim!  We got this really cool award from our friends Isabella and Jake:

VersatileBlogger

Wow!  Thanks, you guys!  We feel very loved!

Here's what we're supposed to do:

1.  Add the award to your blog.
2.  Thank the person who gave you the award.
3.  Mention 7 random things about yourself.
4.  List the rules.
5.  Pass the award onto 15 bloggers
6.  Inform each of those 15 by leaving a comment on their blog.

OK!  We added the really cool award to our awards gadget in our sidebar and posted it here!  We also do thank Isabella and Jake very much!  They are new friends and we're really enjoying getting to know them. Please surf on over to their blog A Tale of Two Huskies and say "woo"!

Zim and I have been working really hard on our list of seven random things about us.  Let's give it a look:

IMG_6398 Dave and Zim
Me and Zim working really hard on our list

1.  Zim and I did time at the same shelter.  I am older than he is, but I was adopted about 5 months after he was.  I was supposed to be a "foster", but ... well ... let's just say I had other plans!

2.  We love to go - any where, any time!  On a walk?  On a car ride?  To the vet's?  Doesn't matter -- we're game!

3.  Zim is bi-eyed.  I am the only Siberian Mom and Dad have had with two matching eyes.  Well, actually great brother Booter had two gorgeous matching coppery-colored eyes; he was raised by Mom and Dad's first Siberians, but he was a Lab/Aussie mix.  Click here to see close-ups of our eyes, as well as Stormy and Ammy's; click here to see our great sisters' (Jesse and Lucky's) eyes; click here for Booter's!!

4.  Zim and I aren't just brothers (through adoption), we're best friends!

5.  When Mom and Dad watch TV at night, Zim likes to lay on his bed in front of the fireplace and I like to lay on top of Mom.  Ha woo.

6.  My very favorite thing to do in the back yard is play Fetch with Mom!  I love it!  Zim would rather explore.

7.  We love to greet  our fans  people we see out on our walks.  If someone walks by without stopping to admire us, we refuse to move and keep staring at them.  I mean ... who could walk past us guys without a little cuddle or ear scratchie?  We just don't get it!

OK!  That's our seven random things.  We already listed the rules.  As per tagging 15 other bloggers ... anyone reading this - please consider yourselves tagged!  (If you want to be.)

Many thanks again to our friends Jake and Isabella!

Luv,
Dave (and Zim sends play bows!)

Serene Scenery Sunday

Ha roo, pups and cool cats.  It's me, Zim, here with some gorgeous scenery guaranteed to help you find your inner serenity!  Ready to take a look around?

Let's start with one of our beautiful Kansas sunsets!

IMG_6765 23 FEB 12 sunset

Isn't that breathtaking? God does amazing work!

The day after that sunset, it was windy and cold as can be - so Mom bundled up and we drove out to one of my favorite places! Can you guess where? Here's a hint:

DSCN3154 Zim at Tuttle Creek Dam/Reservoir

OK, that's a mighty good hint. It's the Tuttle Creek Dam/Ocean! What better place to be on a blustery day! I haven't featured it on Serene Scenery Sunday for a while, so I thought we'd share the views with you!

Built in to the other side of the plaque I'm posing by is a cool stone bench where you can enjoy a great look around.

IMG_6787 Zim at Tuttle Creek Dam/Reservoir
That's our car behind me; obviously we hadn't walked very far yet!

You can see a lot from up there! Right out this way ...

IMG_6789 Zim at Tuttle Creek Dam/Reservoir

... is the water. There's a stone wall in front of the big hill that leads down to it. Let's take a look!

IMG_6790 Zim at Tuttle Creek Dam/Reservoir

If you're tall like me, and like some bipeds, you can see over the wall; if not, you can peek around it:

IMG_6785 Zim at Tuttle Creek Dam/Reservoir

Tuttle Creek sure is pretty, isn't it? And check out that gorgeous blue sky!

We walked down by the water for a little bit ...

DSCN3146 Zim at Tuttle Creek Dam/Reservoir

... then came back up to enjoy the views.

IMG_6780 Zim at Tuttle Creek Dam/Reservoir

It was an incredible adventure - and sure helped me find that Zen of Zim zone!

That evening, we had another spectacular sunset! Check it out:

IMG_6805 24 FEB 12 sunset

Oh, that's not what you think out there - it's just a crazy cloud formation!  Sure had the bipeds around here doing some double-takes, though!

Have a soothing, serene Sunday, everyone!

Zim

Photo Finish Friday

Woo, everypup and everycat.  It's me, Dave.  Zim and I have been meaning to post these portraits Mom took of us for a while now and we keep forgetting.  I figured Photo Finish Friday was a good time to go for it!

Here I am, by the fireplace:

DSCN2810 Dave
"Whatcha got, Mom!?  Is that a cookie?"

We very rarely have a fire in there. I mean - we're Siberian Huskies... you know?

And here's the portrait of Zim:

As I'm sure you can understand, that one's been dubbed the "Sunshine on My Snooter" shot. Ha woo!

Have a great weekend, friends!

It Moved!

Ha roo, pups and cool cats, it's me - Zim!  Remember a while ago I showed you the cool snake I saw all curled up by this one street we go down sometimes?  Dave and I got Mom to take us down there again the other day, and ... well, check this out!

IMG_6691 Zim
Dave's shadow and me, looking for the sneaky-snake

It was GONE!

I looked all around, then finally saw what I thought was it over across the street:

IMG_6692 Zim
"It looks like it ... but I just can't be sure!"

I told Mom I needed to get closer, so I could make sure it was the same snake. She gave some long, involved response involving the words "mud" and "no way" ... so it just didn't pan out. She promised to bring me back after the mud had cleared.

Good to her word, Mom brought Dave and me back a couple days later. I looked for the sneaky-snake in the dirt, where the mud had been... but it had moved AGAIN! I spotted it over on some concrete and went over to check it out!

IMG_6542 Zim
"It had been over there ... then in the mud ... now it's over here!  I wonder ..."

I had to check it out and make sure it was the same one!  (You just never know with these sneaky-snakes!)

IMG_6540 Zim
Sniff, sniff...

It was the same one, alright! And sure, it played possum when Dave and I showed up, but clearly this thing is on the move!

IMG_6694 Dave and Zim
"Hey, Zim!  You don't think that sneaky-snake will follow us home, do you?"
"I'm not sure, Dave.  We'll have to stay extra alert!"

Stay alert, my friends!  There's no telling where this thing will show up next!

Play bows,
Zim

Runner!

Woo, everypup and everycat.  It's me, Dave, Guide Dog for the Color Blind.  The title of this post might be a little deceptive, given that I'm a rough and tumble sled dog and all.  Or at least I know some guys/gals who are.  I don't mean "runner" like what Zim and I like to do, I mean "runner" like a table runner.  Ha woo.

Anyway, remember a while ago, I told you that I was helping my mom with a super secret project?  (Click here for a reminder.)  I chose some really special fabrics to make a table runner for our buddy Mitch's mom!  We'd been wanting to do something for her for a long time - we've been blogging friends for a long, long time!  When they lost dear, sweet Maggie, we thought we could express our condolences best through a quilted project -- and that's how the runner came about.  I saw their dining room reno on the blog and KNEW I could find the perfect fabrics in Mom's stash!

Once I chose the perfect fabrics, Mom got busy doing this:

IMG_6478

Zim worked doubly hard, guarding her so she could concentrate, and I lent her my moral support while she sewed. Before we knew it, the top was together. Dad came in to help, too! Here he is, holding up the top of the runner:

IMG_6528

Good job, Dad! (I would have done that, but I'm not tall enough.)

Mom pieced a back together and sandwiched it with the top, batting in between, then it was time to choose the quilting thread. Mom needed my help, as she has a hard time distinguishing anything in the yellow/orange/gold/brown part of the color wheel.

IMG_6553
"I don't think that's the one.  Let's see what else we've got!"

She almost used that one, but I let her know how strongly I was against it:

IMG_6556
"Pllllllffffftttt!"

Finally, she chose one just a few shades different, and I could rest easy!

IMG_6558

As you can see, I have a toy there in case Mom needed to take a break and play Fetch with me. Woo.

After the quilting process, it was time to sew the binding on. I was there every step of the way, lending my expertise!

IMG_6600
"I understand using the orange thimble because it's comfy, Mom...
but it REALLY clashes with the colors in the runner!"

You'd think she'd move the thimble out of the way for the photo op...

Here it is, all finished and ready to get boxed up to go to Mitch's mom!

DSCN3128

It made us so happy to hear Mitch's mom's reaction - and to see it on her dining room table! Click here and scroll down to the last picture in the post to see what a perfect fit it is!!! (You can click the photo to make it bigger!)  We sewed a lot of love and good memories of Maggie into that runner - and hope M&M's mom will enjoy it for years to come!

I hope you enjoyed the behind the scenes look into our secret project!

Luv,
Dave

Guess What's in Town?

Woo, everypup and everycat.  It's me, Dave!  Hey, guess what's in town?  The K-State Rodeo!  Being from Texas, I get all excited about rodeos and stuff - and you know how much Zim likes horses!  So imagine this ...

We were just walking along in the park on our morning walk with Dad, when ...

IMG_0874 Dave and Zim
"Whoa!  Look, Zim!  Horses!"

It was mighty exciting; we haven't seen horses at our park for quite a while.  Dad was kind enough to shoot these pix with his iPhone!

IMG_0877 Dave and Zim
"Hey, you guys!  How's everyhorse doing?"

I was pretty excited, but Zim kept his cool, like he always does!

IMG_0879 Dave and Zim

We stood there communing for a while - the horses seemed real friendly and all!

IMG_0878 Dave and Zim
"Mind if we come a little closer, fellas?"
"Wait a sec... I think I see someone..."

Zim wanted to go get to know them a little better, but I thought I saw someone I knew and wanted to go say "howdy"!

IMG_0880 Dave and Zim
"BEVO!??!  Is that you?"

Woo.  It wasn't him.  I thought it was for a minute there.

Anyway, the horses said Zim could come closer, and complimented him on his good manners.  Zim's real nice like that.

IMG_0882 Zim
"Hi.  I'm Zim!"

Dad said we needed to wrap it up and head back home.  Zim did nosies with our new friends for a sec - look at them all lining up to meet him!

IMG_0884 Zim
"Come on, Zim!  Maybe Mom will bring you back later on!"

What a great way to kick off the weekend!  I hope yours is full of wonderful adventures!

Luv,
Dave

Photo Finish Friday

Ha roo, pups and cool cats.  It's me, Zim.  The other day, Mom was just running downstairs to grab something real quick and wasn't going to stay down there.  She shut the door so I wouldn't follow her  then not come upstairs when I'm called  to protect her from anything she might encounter.  Whatever.  Anyway, somehow she knew I was waiting for her at the top of the steps when she came back up!

IMG_6618 Zim

I have no idea how she knew I was right there!

Ha roo roo roo!

Snow Thief!

Ha roo, pups and cool cats, it's me, Zim!  Thanks for all your kind words about the picture of me in my really cool snow fort yesterday!  Sadly, we don't have as much snow left as it looks like there.  Look behind me here:

DSCN3122 Zim

That's right - some of my snow is gone! This kind of thing doesn't just disappear into thin air! I know exactly what happened!

DSCN3121 Zim
"That's right..."

The Snow Thief has struck again!  Check out our AO:

DSCN3116 Zim
"Can you believe this?!?"

Just 24 hours prior, this place was piled up with fluffy, beautiful SNOW!  Snow plows were throwing snow everywhere, Dad was shoveling, Mom was slipping all over the place - it was the winter wonderland we've been waiting for!  And now ... it's almost all gone!

Except ...

DSCN3120 Zim

...except for my really cool snow fort. It's the only decent amount of snow left. I'd best guard it carefully!

DSCN3119 Zim
"That thief's not getting my really cool snow fort!"

You're on notice, Snow Thief!
