Joining the Army?

Um... hello.  I have a big story to tell you, and a lot of photos to share, so let's get started and I'll explain along the way.  OK?

Other than going for a ride, my adventure started like this:

IMG_4105cm Cam and Mike
A little walk with a nice man I met!

And then I got into another vehicle!

IMG_4109c Cameron
"Hello, room service?  I'd like some poached chicken, please!"

That didn't seem to work.

We drove through a lot of this:

IMG_4119e Kansas

And I do mean "a lot"!  Then we saw this:

And then this:

IMG_4122e Almost there!

And then I heard the lady say, "We're almost home!"  Home?

IMG_4126c Cameron
"Oh, this seems like a nice place!"

And then the nice man went inside and then the door opened back up again and ...

IMG_4129cz Cam
"Ha roo?"
"Oh, my!"

IMG_4135cz Cam and Zim
"Hello!"
"Ha roo!"

Hmm!  He was certainly nice!  And then they left and then the door opened back up again!

IMG_4137czd Cam, Zim, Dave
"Dave!  Dave!  That surprise we were looking for?!?  It's HERE!"
"Oh, great Balto!  Look, Zim!"
"I should play hard to get!"

I let the redhead say hello to me again ...

IMG_4139zcd Zim, Cam, Dave
"Hey, beautiful!"

... and then ...

IMG_4141dc Dave and Cam
"Hi, I'm Dave."
"Oh, my!  You're so tall, dark, and handsome!"

OK.  Maybe I'll only play hard to get with my fellow redhead.

We did some walking - I mean Road Marches!

And some more Road Marches!

IMG_4145cdz Cam, Dave, Zim

And even more!

IMG_4154dzc Dave, Zim, Cam

I heard something about trying to get some puppies tired.  Especially two of them.

IMG_4156cz Cam and Zim
"Who do you think they mean, Zim?"
"I have no idea what they're talking about half the time, Camo!"

"Camo"?  I've never heard that one before!

But perhaps I should introduce myself!

D'Azul's Girl From Ipanema

Yes, I am D'Azul's Girl From Ipanema, call name Cameron.  But you can call me Cam or Cammie.  Or as my new brothers have been calling me - Camo!  Yes ... I've joined the Army!

That's all I have for now!  I look forward to getting to know all of you - and I'll share more about myself in the days to come.

Serene Scenery Sunday

Ha roo, pups and kit-cats, it's me, Zim, here with my bestest big brother Dave.

IMG_4047z Zim
"Hmm.  Not over there..."

IMG_4049d Dave
"Not over here, either!"

IMG_4048dz Dave and Zim
"Let's keep looking."
"Roger that, Dave."

Stay tuned - and have a wonderful Sunday!

Zim

Weekend Plans

Woo, everypup and everycat.  It's me, Dave.  Does anyone have big plans for the weekend?  In addition to walks, Guard Duty, and hanging out with Zim, I have something else on tap.

IMG_4072d Dave
"Here... lemme take a look at this one!"

Yep.  Helping Mom play Scrabble.

IMG_4065d Dave
"That ought to do it, Mom!"

She never beats Dad without my help.  Woo.

What's everyone else up to?

Luv,
Dave

Photo Finish Friday

Woo, everypup and everycat.  It's me - Dave - here with Photo Finish Friday.  Before I get to today's entry, I wanted to address a question a few of you asked on Zim's post from yesterday.  You wanted to know why Zim doesn't like people to touch his feety-feet.  The answer is very simple - it's in the Siberian Husky Rule Book.  I think it's Rule #103, but I'm not sure.  It says "Don't let bipeds touch your feety-feet without staging a protest."  It's in the same section about not cooperating for brushing, baths, and toothbrushing; there's a chance it comes after the part about not fetching.  I ... um ... like I said, I'm not sure about that section of the rule book, 'cuz I just may have skimmed that part.  Or read the Cliff's Notes.

Moving right along ...

After our dinner last night, Dad took us boys on a walk while Mom did the dishes.  She came out to meet us and snapped some pix.  I thought I'd share some with you!  Here we are, coming down the home stretch:

IMG_1996cps Zim, Mike, Dave
Zim, Dad and me.  Dad's the tall one.  Ha woo.

Mom wanted to take some portrait shots when we got closer.  Zim thought it would be fun if we did our serious look.  Cool!  I went first:

My serious look!

Pretty good, don't you think?  Zim went next:

IMG_2002cps Zim
Zim.  Not doing his serious look!

IMG_2005cps Dave
"Zim!  I thought we were doing our serious look!"

It was his idea in the first place!

IMG_2004cps Dave
"Can you believe that?!?"

IMG_2003cps Dave
"Silly redhead!"

He's so silly!  ... or maybe it's that part of the Siberian Husky Rule Book about doing the unexpected.  Hmm.  Could be.  Do other breeds have rule books?  What do yours say about you?

Luv,
Dave

1 Sheep ...

Ha roo, pups and cool cats, it's me - Zim!  I was hanging out in the bedroom the other day, trying to catch up on some much-needed Z time, when my mom came in to see what I was doing.

IMG_4028z Zim
"Hey, Mom.  Just trying to grab a little shut-eye."

She said she had something that might help out.

IMG_4030z Zim
"MOM!  It's TOUCHING me!!!  It's TOUCHING my FOOTY-FOOT!!!"

Honestly.  Who does she think I am - Dave?  (No offense meant to Dave; he and I are just VERY different about having our feety-feet touched!)

Mom explained that when some people try to get to sleep, they count sheep.  The sheep that she brought in to see me is one of the famous Counting Sheep from the Serta mattress commercials.  She thought maybe it would help me take a nap.  Hmm... I told Mom if the sheep got off my footy-foot, I'd give it a try.

IMG_4029z Zim
"Let's see ... 1 Sheep ... getting kinda drowzzzzzy ..."

Worked like a charm!

After a little cat nap, Mom and I headed off on an adventure, then, when we got home, I thought I'd take another little siesta in the breakfast room.

IMG_4042z Zim
"1 Sheep ..."

At least he wasn't touching my footy-foot.

Sweet dreams to all!

Play bows,
Zim

Frosty Paws

Woo, everypup and everycat.  It's me, Dave.  I was  taking a nap  standing Guard Duty in the living room yesterday afternoon when Mom announced there was a package for me!  How exciting!  I helped Mom open it (she forgot to take pix) and discovered some coupons for Frosty Paws from my buddies Sam and Monty!  Woo!!!  Thanks, you guys!  There was also a little stuffy in the box - the Frosty Paws mascot guy!

We got acquainted, then he kept trying to high five me.  Even when I was ready to get back to my Guard Post.

IMG_4023d Dave and the Frosty Paws mascot
"High 5, Dave!"
"Umm... yeah.  OK."

He wouldn't stop, so I humored him.

IMG_4027d Dave and the Frosty Paws mascot
"Five on the low side, Frosty!"

Then I saw it.  Frosty Paws had better groomed feety-feet than I did.

IMG_4036d Davy
"Sigh."

Mom, being the bestest mom, saw my sad situation and offered to trim my snow shoes for me!  I love having my feety-feet played with!  I mean ... getting groomed.

After Mom fixed me up, Frosty came back over and wanted to high five me again.  (He's relentless!)  I accommodated him once again:

IMG_4038d Dave and the Frosty Paws mascot
"Who's got the nice-looking feety-feet now, FP?  Ha woo!"

IMG_4039d Dave
"Oh, yeah!  High five, Dave!"
"Give it a rest, buddy!  Really!"

It's like his paw is in permanent "high five" position or something!  Sheesh!

Many thanks to Sam and Monty!

Luv,
Dave

Serene Scenery Monday - Back to the KSO!

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me - Zim!  As I mentioned the other day, I took Mom on two bird-watching trips to the Kansas Ocean last week.  It was so relaxing and we had such a serene time that I thought I would do a delayed "serene" post this week.  Why not head back to the KSO now and take a look!?!  We saw totally different ducks that time and we need your help IDing one of them!  Grab a bowl of water and some coffee for your biped and let's go birding!

As always, I had a good look around when we got there:

IMG_1266cps Zim

It was a bit breezy, as you can tell from my fur!

We saw Blue Winged Teals again!

Then I saw my favorite ducks!

IMG_1295cps Redheads
Redheads!

See the resemblance?

We also saw these guys!

IMG_1299cps Ring-Necked Ducks
Ring-Necked Ducks!

We do believe they're Ring-Necked Ducks!  (Check this link.)  Aren't they cool?  Here are some more pix of them:

Here's one swimming with some Redheads and friends!

Mom is trying to ID the duck in the upper right-hand corner of that photo above.

IMG_1313cps Zim
"Ha roo?"

Let's zoom in - check the upper right in these pix:

IMG_1315cps Ring-Necked Duck, Redhead and ?

IMG_1271cps Redhead and friends

Sort of a coppery-brown head with a white dot by his bill.  If you have any ideas, please let us know!

I made sure to scan the whole ocean, checking for more ducks:

IMG_1318cps Zim

That's one of the cool things about the Kansas Ocean - you can pretty much take in the whole thing from one vantage point.  Not all oceans are like that!

IMG_1319cps Zim
"Front and center, Mom!  More Redheads!"

IMG_1321cps Redhead Ducks

Be sure to check the upper left-hand corner of the photo above!  Dive!  Dive!  Dive!  Ha roo roo roo!  I hope he got something tasty!

After we'd been there a while, the ducks must have had their fill of being at the KSO and took off:

IMG_1356cps Ducks in Flight

I wished them a good afternoon ...

IMG_1332cps Zim
"Fly safe!  See everyduck again soon!"

... then Mom and I headed home, too.

I hope you enjoyed coming to the ocean with us.  For more pix of the birds we saw, please visit our FlickR set Birds!

Zim
