What Am I Doing?

Greetings to all!  It's me, Maggie!  Check it out!  It's me, posing ever-so-sweetly in front of our neighbor's tree!

Me!  Polargold's Margaret Thatcher

Yeah, not really. I was staring at the people across the street. Mom made the best of the situation, though!  I mean - what a great pose, don't you think?

Have a great Monday!

Serene Scenery Sunday

Hello, everyone!  It's me, Cammie!  Maggie and I took Mom and Dad on a lovely, serene walk yesterday; I thought I'd share a nice photo from it for Serene Scenery Sunday!

IMG_0447CamMagsPlayBows
"Ha roo!"
"Ha roo to you!!"

Oh, wait. Sorry. Wrong photo. I meant to share this one:

"What a lovely day, isn't it, Maggie?"
"Lovely.  Serene, even!"

I rather like both shots.

Have a serene day!

Yesterday's Walk

Hello, everyone!  It's me, Cammie!  Yesterday, we went on an all-girls walk! We missed having Dad with us and all (he  had an earlier tee-time for golf  was doing something really important) but we made the most out of it!  Maggie and I took a vote and decided we'd take Mom on a route we hadn't been on in a while!

My vote (which won ... because my vote always wins) was to go up my favorite hill!

IMG_0412MagsCamHill
"How fun!  Up, up, and UP!!!!"
"I love this hill!"

The good news is that after we go up that hill, there's another big hill to go up!

IMG_0413MagsCamHill
"Almost to the top of this baby!"
"Then we get to Mom's favorite part!"
IMG_0414MagsCamHill
"Wow, what a view!  No wonder Mom likes this part!"
"That's what you like, right, Mom?  The view?"
"Oh.  Umm ... yeah ... that ... and being at the top means we get to go down hill now!"
IMG_0420CamMagsHill
"I like going up better."
"Good news up ahead then, Cam!"
IMG_0422MagsCamHill
"See?  Isn't this great?!?  Another hill!"
"Yay!"
"Ughhh..."

It was wonderful!  We all loved it!  And did you see the artwork we did for Mom?  Here's a better look:

Nice, don't you think?  Mom always says that twisted leads are a sign of a successful walk!

Thanks for coming along with us!

Ready For Our Closeups!

Hello, everyone!  It's me, Cammie!  As Maggie mentioned the other day, we headed down to Quivira National Wildlife Refuge Monday to do some birding.  It was a day full of surprises, incredible opportunities, and even some highly cooperative birdies!  Some were extremely cooperative -- like Super Model cooperative, ready for closeups and everything!

IMG_9957Cammie
"You know ... like this!"

So let's start with Mom's very favorite duck in all of duckdom ... the most handsome, the most charismatic, the one with the best schnozzola out there ... THE Northern Shoveler!

IMG_3241NorthernShovelers4
"Wow, what an intro!  Hello, everyone!  ... especially you ladies out there."
"Oh, my.  He's just so handsome ..."
IMG_3238NorthernShovelers1
"Hey, check out my lady-duck's shovel!  Is that the BEST?!?"
"You mean my dainty, little bill?"
IMG_3242NorthernShovelers5
"What a wo-duck!"
"SQUEE!"
IMG_3243NorthernShovelers6
"Oooooh, he makes my heart go pitty-pat!"

I think Mom was about to pass out from the cuteness right about then.  She tried for a couple more shots first.

IMG_3244NorthernShovelers3
"Would you like another shot of my man-duck, Camera Lady?"
"Oh... oh, yes, please, you little shovel-billed beauty!"
IMG_3245NorthernShovelers
"Here he is!"
"Just this shot, then we'd like a little privacy..."
"I
the Northern Shoveler!!!  Especially you two!"

Needless to say, Mom was on Cloud Nine.  We'll share more birdie pix from our trip soon!

"It was a blast!!!"

We'll fill you in eventually, but we all had a GREAT time!  More to come!

A "Great" Serene Scenery Sunday

Hello, everyone!  It's me, Cammie.  I'm feeling pretty serene already, but I think my  pillow  sweet Maggie might need a little help in that direction.

IMG_0301CamMagsSnuggle
"How about sharing some birdie photos, Mom?  Those always make us feel serene!"
"Yeah.  Birdie pix.  That should do it!"

Mom took a  run out to Tuttle Creek this week, so we knew she'd be supplied with serene photos - and the ones she had were all great!

Here are two of the Great Horned Owl puppies we told you about a couple weeks ago:

Here's a Great Blue Heron taking in the scenery at the River Pond:

Mom saw egrets for the first time this season!  Here's a Great Egret fishing in the lagoon area of the River Pond:

And yet another Great Egret across the Beaver pond:

All those great birdies sure made me feel even more serene!  Even if my  pillow  Maggie did move!

IMG_0286CamSleepyMags
"Great job, Mom!  Zzz..."
"Mom.  Mom ... I'm so serene I can barely keep my eyes open."
"Sweet baby girls!"

We hope Mom's photos added a great dose of serenity to your Sunday, too!

Wall Posing

Greetings to all!  It's me, Maggie!  OK, there have been rumors around here that I'm not quite up to the role of Super Model.  Granted, I'm no Cammie, but who amongst us really is?  Exactly.  So ...  Mom needed some new photos to practice on for a course she's taking and I volunteered to pose for her!  I wanted to prove that I could rise to the challenge.

After a pep talk from Cam, I went out and did some wall posing.

I posed with my nose up:

IMG_0226MaggieWallPose

I lowered it a bit and had Mom shoot in square format:

IMG_0223MagsWallPose

And for the big finish, I gave her my best Prime Minister pose:

IMG_0229MagsWallPose

See?  I can totally knock a Super Model session out of the park!

In totally unrelated news, the neighbor to our south was cooking something that smelled absolutely AMAZING!

Margaret Thatcher

Snooter Smoochies!

Greetings to all!  It's me, Mags.  How many of you (or your moms) wanted to give Cammie's snooter a big ol' smooch yesterday?  That's what I thought!  LOTS of you!  Well, here.  Let me do it for you!

IMG_0243MagsCamSnooterSmooch
  "Kiss-kiss, Cam-a-roo!"
   "Oh, my Maggie!"

She is seriously smoochable!

Yours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher

PS:  I was NOT about to grab her neck and engage in Crazed River Otter Games!  I was NOT!

PS again:  OK, I was.  But I did give her a smooch first!

A Lovely Day In April!

Greetings to all!  It's me, Maggie!  Cam and I have had fun showing you the gardens for the past couple of days.  Mom and Dad have been putting a lot of work in lately, but not over the weekend for some reason.  Friday, it got over 90, then the Kansas winds kicked into high gear, then the temps started falling, then there were a bunch of really bad storms that missed us, then Saturday ...

IMG_0195ViewOutBack
The view to the west!

Yep! The view out back! Isn't that great?!!? When things started to settle down a bit, I thought Mom and I should stroll around out front.

IMG_0196MagsAprilSnow
"What a lovely day!"

It was so nice!  The winds were still blowing, the windchill was somewhere in the teens, and a light snow was falling!  Who could ask for more?  Oh.  Yeah.  Well, Mom needed a break from yard work, anyway!

Here's a short video. If you look to the left of the flower pot, you'll see some rocks and a clump of greenish stuff. That is - or was - the Grecian Windflowers we showed you. Hey, they're hearty; they're already looking good again! Anyway, let's go look around a bit!

What a lovely day, indeed! Is Kansas great or what?!?!

Yours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher

When You're Trying To Be A Supermodel ...

Hello, everyone.  It's me, Cam.  So there we were.  I was doing my best to pose like a supermodel in the garden ...

IMG_0137MagsCamFriendshipGarden
"OK, wait.  No ... OK, yeah ... no ... ha roo roo roo ... OK, wait.  I can do this ..."
"Seriously, Maggie?"

... and someone had a case of the sillies.

Sigh.

Cammie!

Serene Scenery Sunday

Hello, everyone!  It's me, Cammie.  Maggie and I thought we'd show you around the gardens a bit for Serene Scenery Sunday.  Mom shot these pictures a couple days ago, when it was still Spring.  Let's start with a look up here in the front.

IMG_0072CamFrontGarden
"Nice mulch job, Mom!"

Please note the new mulch!  (For more pix of pretty much winterized/empty garden beds and fresh mulch, we uploaded photos to our Garden 2018 album at this link.)

The only thing blooming out front are these guys:

IMG_9929GrecianWindFlower
Grecian Wind Flower

They don't bloom long, but they are a great burst of color when they do!

Let's see what Maggie is doing out back, OK?

IMG_0118MagsWildflowerGarden
"I'm down here by the Wildflower Garden, feeling mighty serene!"

I thought I'd join her on the wall for a pose.

IMG_0144MagsCamWall
"In fact, I'm so serene, I'm ready to go to sleep!"
"Maybe we should liven things up a bit!"

Oh.  In that photo above, you can see some of the sedum coming to life, in the left-hand corner of the shot.  I think that one is the Blue Spruce Sedum.

Anyway, we ran around and played for a bit, then did some more posing.  Here we are on the retaining wall:

IMG_0149MagsCamWall
"Well, that was fun!  Now ... what to do, what to do!"
"SO much fun!  Just don't jump off the wall, Maggie."

More different sedum right there in front of us!  Mom thought we should move away from the retaining walls for some reason, so we headed up to the Friendship Garden.  The sedum plants are coming in up there, too.

IMG_0139MagsCamFriendshipGarden
"Ha roo, everyone!"
"I wouldn't have let her jump, Mom!"

Honestly.  She's like my very own puppy to me -- no way would I let her do something crazy!  ... without joining her myself.

We  messed around some more    got in a quick round of Crazed River Otter Games  walked around enjoying the gardens a bit more, then struck a pose by the Texas Quince.

IMG_0157CamMagsTXQuince
"I'm feeling quite serene now!"
"Me, too.  And just a wee bit tired!"

Mom took a closeup of the Texas Quince with her iPhone and caught a bee in there!  Check it out:

IMG_0129TexasQuinceAndBee
"Bzzzzz!"

I hope he's found somewhere warm to hunker down these past few days -- we've had snow and windchills in the teens!  Now THAT'S nice and serene!

Have a lovely Sunday!

Cammie!

That's Mulch Better

Greetings to all!  It's me, Maggie.  The other day, Mom and Dad had a big truck come and dump mulch in our driveway.  They do this more or less every year, but didn't last year.  You know ... Mom's Spring Break and all.  Ahem.  Anyway, they worked real hard spreading it all over the mulched areas of our gardens, but didn't have quite enough for the Wildflower Garden out back.  Dad bought a whole bunch of bags the next day, then he and Mom got that last garden area covered.  I thought I should go check it out!

IMG_0115MagsFriendshipGarden
"Yeah, wait a sec, Mom.  Let me see if the neighbors are out ..."

We all have our priorities.  Anyway ... here I am on the retaining wall by the Wildflower Garden:

IMG_0116MagsWildflowerGarden
"I don't think they're over there ..."

Can't blame a girl for checking, right?  Their little boy always says "hi" to me; he's very nice!

Anyway, I humored Mom eventually and checked out the garden:

IMG_0131MagsWildflowerGarden
"Yeah, Mom!  Nice!  Looks like there's a good crop of blue flags coming in!"

Our growing season is way behind this year, due to the goofy weather.  Some of the sedum is up and running, but that's about it.  Those blue flags apparently are where other stuff SHOULD come up, but might not.  Mom didn't want to smoosh things when she was mulching.

We'll start showing you more of the gardens tomorrow!  For now, I just want to sit and take it all in for a minute.

IMG_0123MagsGardenWall
"I'd say I feel serene, but that's a post for tomorrow!"

Mom really likes that picture of me.  She said I am carrying myself a lot like Cammie there.  She is my aunt, you know!  Do you think we look alike?

Yours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher

Picture Perfect

Hello, everyone.  It's me, Cammie.  We were going to post something else today, but Mom took this photo of Maggie and me in the backyard this morning and we really like it.  We thought we'd share it instead:

IMG_0152MagsCamGarden
Maggie and me!

That was after we had a lot of fun playing!  Don't we look happy?!?

It should get up to about 90℉ again today (32℃), then the winds are going to kick up even more (they're already firing up to about 43mph) and bring the potential for big storms. You know - the Kansas kind.  THEN, it's supposed to be nice -- in the 20s/30s with a chance of snow.  Ah, Springtime in Kansas!

Cammie!

PS:  For the record, our mom does not share our view of what constitutes "nice".

The Blues

Hello, everyone.  It's me, Cammie.  In case anyone was wondering, my Pickle is empty.

IMG_0009CamPickle
"See?  Empty."

Maggie's is empty, too.

IMG_0003MagsPickle
"Emp-TY.  It's sad.  Very sad."

We've got The Empty Pickle Blues.  I certainly hope some-mom will remedy this situation.  And soon.

Cammie!
