Pamper Yourself!

Hello, everyone. It's me, Cam. Guess what?  Mom won a sample pack of lovely artisan soaps from a fellow blogger over at Raising Addie!

"Want us to help open it, Mom?"
"I could give it the ol' rippitty-rip!"

We were just trying to be helpful. With a broken wrist and sprained other wrist, it's challenging for Mom to do some things -- regardless of how much she wants to. Dad was right there, so Mom decided he might be a better choice for the task at hand. She did accept our offer to do the modeling part.

"I would have opened it carefully!"
"Look!  A note!"

There was a sweet handwritten note!

"It says to pamper yourself, Mom!"
"You should let Dad lather your sprained hand up with one of these babies!"

It will be one-handed pampering for a while yet. 

"Look at how beautiful these soaps are!"
"And they smell nice, too!"

Mom chose Sweet Orange, Lemon, and Rose.

"I like them all!"
"Oooh, I like the Rose!!!"

Mom had also just placed an order for Shady Dog Soaps and that came SUPER FAST!  She ordered the same scents, plus a little thing to go under the soap to keep it up and dry.

Mom loves the soaps - she's even considering taking a bar of it when she goes in to have her cast changed next week (hoping they let her scrub down!).  We thought you all might appreciate hearing about this unique hand-crafted soap. Everyone needs a little pampering from time to time -- right?!?

One Slight Problem

Greetings to all!  It's me, Dr. Mags.  Cam and I are trying our best to help our mom heal up, but there's one slight problem.

"Shouldn't you be resting?"
"Mom, you need to listen to Dr. Mags!"
"But... ooh, look!  I can use the iPhone camera now!"

 Yep. She won't listen.

"This is not the time to embrace your inner Siberian, Mom!"
"Yep. She listens about as well as we do."

I may have to crate her if she doesn't start listening better.

Update

Greetings to all. It's me, Dr. Mags, here with an update on our mom.

When we last blogged, Mom had been to the Emergency Room at Fort Riley -- here's what that looked like:

Diagnosis at that point was her left knee and wrists were bruised and sprained, and her right wrist may have a small fracture. They put in a referral to Orthopedics.

Cam and I have been working tirelessly, with Dad, to take good care of her.

"Let me take a look at that thing, Mom.  Trust me, I'm a doctor."

I thought she should get some rest.

"Stay right here, Mom.  This could be tricky. Maybe Nurse Cam should help out, too."

I put out the call, and the nurse came in and got busy. It's important to keep her wrist elevated, so ...

"Very good work, nurse. I'm going to go back to doing doctor things. Like looking out the window for birdies."
"That's it, Mom. Keep it elevated!"

Mom got in to see the Orthopedic doctor on Tuesday. The good news is her knee and left wrist are just sprained. The not so good news is ...

BROKEN!

Mom is less than thrilled about the break, but does feel very blessed, as she knows it could have been a lot worse. Nurse Cam and I are reportedly being extremely good, and Dad is a godsend; there is way too much Mom just can't do without him. She WAS able to tag along on this morning's walk, though, even if she couldn't unzip her jacket afterwards. 

That's our update. As this has taken Mom 87 hours to type, we aren't back to blogging yet. We miss all of you!

Spring Break

Greetings and hello, everyone!

We will be taking a short  break  pause for a bit.

"Don't say 'break'!"
"Oh my."

Mom had just finished with some gardening when she tripped and fell down in our driveway. She fell forward bruising one knee while catching her fall with her hands. Dad took her to the Emergency Room, where she was treated and had X-Rays taken of her knee and wrists. Her left knee and wrists were bruised and sprained. Her right wrist may have a small fracture. They put a splint on it and referred her to orthopedics. They will examine the X-Ray and probably call her Monday or so.

In the meantime, we will try to check in on your blogs, but with our typist down, we won't be able to comment.

Back To Normal

Greetings to all!  It's me, Maggie!  Cam would like to thank all of you for your kind comments yesterday - it was a routine check up and we are very pleased with everything the students and vet had to say!  Having said that, it was really awful being apart for  a whole hour and fifteen minutes  the very long time that she was gone and I missed her tons!

Oh, I know, you think I'm all about the ...

"Ufff!"
"BOOM!"

... and I am, but I also regard Cam not just as my big sister, playmate, and all around best friend, but like a mama. So after she got back and I sniffed her all over, I didn't leave her side.

After brunch, we did this for a long time:

"I'll be right here if you need anything, Cam."
"Thank you, Maggie."

Then Mom and Dad went out on the deck and we went with them. Cam got comfy, then I went over to check on her.

"Do you need anything?  How about a little kiss-kiss?"
"That helps a lot, Maggie.  I missed you, too, you know."

I wedged myself into the corner so I could keep a close eye on her.

"I'm right here, OK?"
"Thanks, little one.  Zzz..."

I stayed close all the rest of the day and night.

Of course, today we're back at the BOOM! and playing Crazed River Otter Games, but Mom sure kept commenting on how sweet we were yesterday!  Me?  I'm glad things are back to normal!  I'm sure Cam is, too.

Getting Some Rest

Hello, everyone.  It's me, Cammie.  Mom has been a bit "under the weather" as they say, and the other day, Dad said she should try to get some rest.  I love getting some rest and am very good at it - so I thought I'd help!

We went into the bedroom and ...

"Ha roo!?!  Hey, Cam?!?"
"Uh-oh."

Maggie found us - of course.  And rather than getting some rest, Maggie proposed doing something else.

"BOOM!"
"We're trying to get some rest, Maggie!"
"Umph!"

Oh.  That's Mom back there on the right side of the shot.  I may have been laying on top of her.  You know.  Holding her down, so she could get some rest.

I guess Mom was ready to get up before I was.  I must have helped her rest really well - don't you think?  And if Maggie hadn't come in to help, she probably would have taken even longer to get some rest!

Serene Scenes!

Hello, everyone!  It's me, Cammie.  It finally happened yesterday!  It finally happened.  We had already gone on our walk, had a round of Crazed River Otter Games, then it came time to go outside for a quick potty break.  I went first and ...

"SNOW!  It's SNOWING!!!!!"

Oh, it was so wonderful!  I walked around for a bit, then ...

"I really should go inside and let Maggie know!" 

I was tempted to bamboozle Mom for a good, long while so I could stay out there and enjoy the snowfall with her, but I knew Maggie would want a turn, too.  I took Mom in, then she called Mags and took her out.

"Check it out, everybody!  SNOW!  At long last!  SNOW!"

She stood there and let the snow collect on her fur -

"No, wait, Mom.  I'm not ready to go in.  I'm writing An Ode To Snow...
I love the snow on my nose,
I love the snow between my toes ..."

She really does have quite the way with words!!  Mom brought her in anyway.

Maggie and I took turns doing this all the rest of the day:

"Really.  I need to go outside again, Mom.  Reeeeealllly."

For some reason, Mom didn't fall for it.  Too often.

It's pretty much all gone now, so it's a good thing we enjoyed it while we could!

Hello, everyone!  It's me, Cammie!  Poor Maggie looked so bored in yesterday's photo, didn't she?  Nothing to do, nothing to play with (except, of course, for her Pickle), nothing going on.  I came up with the same solution to her woes as many of you did!

"BOOM!"

Yep.  Just like that.  Boredom doesn't last long around here!

Impromptu Photo Shoot

Greetings to all!  It's me, Maggie!  When we were out on our walk the other morning, Mom noticed we had some really awesome-looking skies, so when we got up near the top of the Water Tower Trail, she wanted to do an impromptu photo shoot of us girls.  Hmm.  It went something like this ...

"Smile, girls!"
"How's this, Mom?"
"Hey, what's that?!?"

Did I mention this was when we were having 40mph or higher wind gusts?  You wouldn't believe all the stuff flying around!

"Perfect, Cam!  Umm... Maggie?"
"The wind is tickling my ear!"
"Birdie!  No, wait.  COW!"

Seriously crazy wind!

"Oh, Maggie!  Ha roo woo roo!"
"No, seriously!"

"You DO know Mom has cookies, right?"
"Could have been a cow ..."

"Hurry, Mom!  It's the money shot!"
"Why didn't you SAY you had cookies?!?"

I think she got what she wanted in the long run - even if I didn't smile like Cam.  There were too many distractions!

The Aftermath

Greetings to all!  It's me, Maggie.  Oh.  By "aftermath", I don't mean from the storms yesterday.  We do send prayers out to those who were affected, though.  We are just fine, though apparently someone named The Roofers will be paying us a visit soon.  Anyway ... what I mean is the aftermath after a good, hearty round of Crazed River Otter Games (CROG).  You see, after we engage in some CROG activity, we usually do this:

"Yeah.  It makes us a bit ... tired."
"I might see something out there, Mags.  I'm not sure.  I'm not sure I care ..."

Cammie says Mom likes to see us playing.  It's ... it's like she wants us to get tired or something.  Can you believe that?

"You didn't plan this, did you, Mom?"
"I can barely keep my eyes open ... zzz ..."

The good part is that after a few minutes, we're ready to get back at it!  Who's up for a round of CROG?!?

More Reading

Hello, everyone!  It's me, Cammie!  The other day it was so warm and sunny outside, that Mom decided we could all go sit on the deck together.  It would have been better if it was snowing, but we made do.  Apparently it doesn't snow when it's in the 60s.

Maggie and I played with our Pickles while Mom did that "reading" thing.  Once I was done with my Pickle, I thought I should go help Mom.

"Hi, Mom.  Need some help?"
"Thanks, Cammie!"

She was sitting on the deck, so I thought I should sit on her lap.  You know.  Just to be extra helpful.  Maggie came over to see what we were doing ...

"Hey, what are you guys ... oh, wait!  Someone's barking over there!"
"We're doing the 'reading' thing, Mags."

Since she was done with her Pickle, too, and whoever it was who was barking stopped, Maggie decided to join us.  She managed to wedge herself between me and Mom -- not an easy feat!

"Plenty of room for me in here!"
"Snuggle up, Mags!  We've got 'reading' to do!"
"Umm... girls?  Umph!"

For some reason, Mom was done doing "reading" after that and decided to get us to pose instead.

"I like this 'reading' thing, Mags."
"Me, too.  I feel so scholarly."

It was great fun!

"Reading"

Hello, everyone.  It's me, Cammie.  Some of you might have wondered what Maggie was up to in her Wordless Wednesday photo.  Did you see my snooter over there on the left-hand side of the shot?  I was there, too.  We were helping Mom do something called "reading"; it was really fun!

Here's the shot that came right after Maggie was on the launchpad. Umm... I mean "pillows".

"Uh-oh!"
"Here I COME!!!"

"Girls...?"

"Reading" is a whole lot like Crazed River Otter Games, only Mom holds onto her Kindle. Interesting.  We took a break after a bit.

"I heard some pups go to schools or libraries to read with kids."
"We should look into doing that; I like this 'reading' thing!"
"I'm never going to get through Chapter 2 at this rate..."

Do you do "reading" with your bipeds? You should try it out - it's great exercise and tons of fun!
