Sad News from Ao4 HQs

The Ao4 work very hard to keep their blog upbeat - as a place to share their adventures, thoughts, and photos.  We have some very sad news to share today, so I asked Stormy to allow me - their "mom" - to take over today.

The first week of December, our lovely redheaded girl Ammy was diagnosed with Lymphoma.  She remained true to herself - sweet and strong - through Chemotherapy treatments and other therapies, but sadly, we had to let her go last Thursday.  The Lymphoma had taken over her body and the kindest thing for her was to let her go.  Needless to say, it was one of the hardest things her "dad" and I have had to do.

For those of you who knew Ammy and/or knew her through the blog, you know what a happy girl she was.  It's in keeping with her lovely nature that I have a request - please don't post this to your blogs.  I know it would be done out of love for her - but I know she wouldn't want a lot of sadness spread among the blogs.  One of her most endearing traits is that she just could not stand to see anyone sad and would do her utmost to try to spread good cheer.  If you do want to honor her memory, I'll share with you what I shared on FaceBook:
just be nice to someone.  Cheer someone up.  Show some kindness.  Do it when no one is watching and don't tell anyone.  That is the spirit of my Ammy and one of the most important things she taught me.

DSCN5474 Ammy

Amber was the perfect puppy to Stormy, she taught Zim that life is worth living, and was the very best kid sister Dave could ever hope for.  She was truly one of the dearest, sweetest souls my husband and I have ever had the pleasure to know and love.

Thank you for listening - Storm and the boys will be back to blogging soon.

  1. Dear sweet Amber.....she will be missed. I suspect she's sitting proudly at the Bridge with Meeka and Echo by her side, watching over all of us. The world was a better place with her in it. Hugs to you and Mike. I know all too well the pain.

  47. It makes me so sad to think of your loss. I was at work earlier when I commented and when I saw the title of the post I knew I shouldn't read further, but I did, and how quickly the tears came. "Not Ammy" is all I could think of. You know she was my favorite and I'll miss her jokes and her smile. If you need anything please email me! I know the rainbow bridge will be full of smiles and laughter with Amber there because she brought so much joy while she was here. There was a beautiful sunset in Seattle tonight and Im sure meteorologist Ammy was there to light up our skies. Big big hugs to you.

    AO4 Mom and family,
We hope that it's OK if we be upbeat tomorrow but we just gotta be heartbroken tonight. Sure, we'll smile and laugh as we think of Ammy's antics and her weather prognostication skills (guessing?); she was very good at it. We will honor your wishes and keep a low profile but mom and dad said to tell you that they know what you're feeling now. We know that you'll all be Army Strong just like Ammy would want. She is such a beautiful girl and she was most loved and cared for soldier during her hitch at your post. A big Navy salute as Taps plays for your baby girl. May her star burn bright in the evening sky to navigate her way. Fair winds and following sea shipmate.
    Attention on deck.
Now Hear This: Amber, departing. DING_DING, DING-DING, ..... DING.
    Now carry on.

  54. That's a tough call, you know how much I loved her. I don't mind being upbeat, after all I got two shouts of toast today from Misery and Master so that is a good start, but I will have to mention her at some point. Maybe when the sun is shining? :) (It's not today) Or when I make one of my unfunny jokes cos she was always kind enough to smile at them. You can let Misery know if that would be ok. Not yet of course, but a bit later on maybe?

Misery sends her love to you all and I send little tiny Pippa kisses all round (even to Zim and Dave, ha-roo-ha)

    Pippa xx.

  63. Oh my goodness - I'm SO shocked and sorry to hear about Ammy! We haven't been able to visit blogs much since end Dec as we've been moving interstate from Queensland to NSW and then staying in a B&B with poor internet while househunting - only just managed to find somewhere to rent with Honey last weekend! - so have been really out of touch with what's been happening with our blog friends. We're devastated by the news. We shall miss Ammy and her gorgeous smile terribly. But I think that your idea of her legacy - of smiling and making others happy - is the best way to honour her memory. We will be doing our best to remember Ammy that way every day!
