Cool Adventure to Fort Riley!

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me - SGT Zim - here with some pix of the really cool adventure Dave and I went on!  Over Memorial Day weekend, we went to Fort Riley with our mom and dad.  It was really great - we haven't been there for quite a while!

Here I am, just at the outer edge of Cavalry Parade Field:

"I remember this place!"

It was great to be back on post.  We stopped at a lot of the memorials and statues on Cav Parade Field, like the Global War on Terrorism one we showed you on Memorial Day.

Me, SGT Zim, checking out monuments and memorials.
And quite possibly checking for squirrels in the trees.
If we're to be honest here.

Here's Dave looking down a brick path:

Dave!

I thought he had found the Yellow Brick Road at first, but he told me it was red bricks, so it was a no-go.

Let's go check out some of the vintage military equipment and vehicles by the Cavalry Museum!

Me, Zim, by a Sherman tank

That's me posing by an M4 Sherman Tank - that's what was in yesterday's Wordless Wednesday post!  Isn't it cool?!?  The US Army and Marines used a lot of these guys in WWII -- as did our Allies!

The M4 had a 5-man crew -- anyone want to join us?  Maybe we could fire one up and take it for a spin!

Check this out:

Me, Zim, by a half-track

It's a half-track vehicle -- see how it has wheels in the front, but a track (like on the tank) in the back?  Half-track!  On the back, it has some kind of mortar-launcher or missile-launcher or something really cool!  (Sorry ... Mom was supposed to remember so she could help me write the post and she forgot.  Dad is out golfing and getting his feety-feet wet doing something important, or else he'd tell me.)

Moving right along, Dave and I also checked out an M113 Armored Personnel Carrier.

I think that could come in handy getting from Point A to Point B!

Here's one last shot for today - Dave and me by an M36 Tank Destroyer!

So ... it's like an anti-tank tank!

Tomorrow, we'll share more pix of our cool adventure at Fort Riley.  I hope you liked coming along with us!

  2. My family was stationed at Fort Riley in the late 60's! I have wonderful memories of that place!!! Including my brother and I being picked up by the MP's! We were just out walking (mom was at the hospital giving birth to my sister!!), even still my dad was NOT happy! We can laugh about it now!!!

  3. Wow - what a great adventure. We bet we could do some serious fun in those vehicles (except mom says we don't have a license to drive - whatever that means).

  5. How fun! Mom kept getting distracted by how green the grass is, but we kept trying to tell her we need to get Dad one for his birthday!

  6. That is a very cool adventure you went on! Our mommy went to Fort Riley on a field trip way back in the dark ages! We think that they could use the photos of you there for their recruitment posters!

We hope you didn't get any flooding with the recent rains there. Our mommy's family near Tuttle Creek had flooding on their property last night and lots of things washed away down creek but no damage to their houses. Stay dry boys!

  11. Rusty says he will be glad to take any of those vehicles out for a spin. His brothers are not so sure he should have a tank.
