That's right - it's my "Let's Go For A Ride" Look. How many bipeds out there reached for the car keys? I thought so. Fortunately, so did my mom.
We drove around a bit, then ended up at one of my favorite locations - the Kansas Ocean. That's when things got really exciting! Check this out!
"Pull over, Mom! I see some new friends!" |
Can you see them out the window? Let's get out and take a closer look!
That's right - a bunch of Blue Winged Teal Ducks! We've never seen Blue Winged Teals at the KSO before; what a treat!
Here's a shot of Mr. and Mrs. BWT:
Aren't they a beautiful couple?
I love the look on this one guy's face:
"Y'ello." |
All the Blue Winged Teals Mom has seen at Tuttle Creek State Park have been very skittish, but these guys let us get pretty close. Of course, I've never been with Mom when she's seen them at Tuttle, so that could be the kicker right there. Hmm.
Anyway, we got fairly close and Mom took this shot of another couple on the far side of the ocean (that's what's nice about the Kansas Ocean, as opposed to other oceans -- you can see clear across to the other side) :
The algae is really thick over there, so they were chowing down pretty good!
We backed off at that point; we didn't want to disturb their dinner or anything. We were just thrilled to spend a little time with them - we hope they come back to the KSO again! For now, it was great seeing these special guest stars! If you'd like to see a couple more shots, please click here to see our Flickr set.
Play bows,
Zim
That look works for us too. Those teal ducks are beautiful

I had to tell momma to stand down. That first photo had her out the door, car keys in hand, yelling, "let's go, Dex!" How do you do it?
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Dexter
Zim you are not only a bird/cat whisperer but a duck one too. We'd be dashing off for a chase with our peeps in hot pursuit.
ReplyDeleteHave a tremendous Thursday.
Best wishes Molly
Oooh - pretty ducks!
ReplyDeleteMonty and Harlow
those sure are some good looking co-stars. we are SURE that you being there helped them stay calm :)
ReplyDeleteThey probably heard about all the great duck-friendly Siberians that hang out at the Kansas Ocean & thought they'd drop in fur a closer look, ha-woo-woo-woo!

Those are some fine looking feathered friends, Zim. Mom says that look is the one she gets every night from Phantom - translation, "I don't want that food in my bowl, can't I please have some of those cookies in the cabinet?"

Hi Zim, Those ducks are beautiful! This morning we went on a walk around our town lake and the Pelicans have returned. WE love seeing them. Right now it is mating season, so the males have a big bump on the top of their beaks. So interesting.
ReplyDeleteHave a good evening.

whew! we had to grab our mom quick cause she was just about out the door after seeing your "look" Zim :D The BWT sure are beautiful! Maybe that group will spread the word about the good time and good food they had at the KSO and you'll see more.

They are beautiful ducks, and I am pretty certain we don't have them here.
