For us, the show started just after 1700 hours. We held off until about 1900 hours, then went outside to check the scene.
Mom pointed out that I was actually facing the wrong way - but I reminded her we should never look directly at the sun! Saftey first, Mom!!! I thought we should opt for the pinhole in a card method, projecting the image onto another surface. Since we had no special equipment, it seemed the safest way to go.
We actually got incredible photos. Mom shot some close ups, so you can really see the whole thing in detail - we got more than just the "black dot crossing the sun" that even the professionals got. Are you ready to see what the transit actually looked like, close up and personal? Here is a series of three shots as the planet passed in front of the sun.

What beautiful photos! I'm so impressed with your mom's skill. We were planning on trying to watch a little here, but we had a HUGE storm blow in just before Momma was leaving work and you couldn't see the sky until morning. Even now it's pretty gray and yucky. No star-watching for us!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to tell you that WAS amazing! Such detail.
ReplyDeleteI will also tell you my MOM is still laughing. The other people in the church office came in to see what was so funny and she shared your amazing photos and now the whole office has a BIG smile. Thanks Zim.
Blessings,
Goose

Great pics - in fact Martha had everyone in the house up at 4am for what appeared to be no reason. However we then reckoned she wanted to see the transit of Venus however that was nearer 5am in the UK!!!
ReplyDeleteYour shots were most impressive, our silly human could have stayed up an extra hour and got some but no, she went back to bed!!!!!
love
