We're Off To See The ...

Greetings to all!  It's me, Maggie.  So there I was - in search of something exciting to do over the weekend.  I stopped in the living room to see what Dad was doing.

"Hey, Dad.  Whatcha doing?  I thought the Masters was on."

I thought he was watching golf.  I like watching golf - you can usually hear birdies and stuff.  Apparently, they were at commercial, so Dad was doing the "surfing around" thing.

"Oh, yeah.  I know this movie."

We ALL know the movie - don't we?

"Does this shot make it a bit clearer?  Or should I ask, 'Do you FOLLOW me now?'"

Ha roo.  Get it?  "Follow me"?  Ha roo ro----OH!  Wait a sec!  This is one of the best parts!

"I don't think the closed captioning quite has it right."

Could you see it?  They put Toto's words down as "ARF ARF ARF."  They were a little late on the draw and put them on a shot of Dorothy, but I don't think she speaks Terrier.  Anyway, I think they really over-simplified things.  Obviously, the biped who wrote the closed captioning doesn't quite understand the nuances in Toto's delivery.

"You don't really need a brain to figure that one out."

Then it hit me ...

"Isn't it a bit cliché for us to watch The Wizard of Oz, what with us living in Kansas and all?"

Anyway, Dad put it back on the tournament before that Wicked Witch showed up.

Did you watch any cool TV or movies over the weekend?

Yours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher

  3. Maggie my Dad willllll not watch commercials either.
OMDs Mom told me my human sis was a gigantic fan of Wizard of Oz from the first time she saw it at about 2. She was never ever frightened by it ...well maybe a tad by the flying monkmees(that is what she called monkeys). Anyway our family adopted the first family pet...it was a mighty mini Dachshund named....yep....Toto. Mom knew that would be the name of the dog no matter his size or color or bred.

  5. "We're off to the see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz!" :-) I'm with you on the close captioning, Maggie. Arf arf arf just is not getting at the nuances of dogspeak. I didn't watch much TV over the weekend. I did take some good naps though. :-)

  19. Oh Maggie, we think you are right, there was definitely something lost in the translation of Toto's lines! We sat with Mama and Daddy and watched the Hunger Games series this weekend. I think you would like it, they have a very cool kitty starring in it!

  20. Arf, Arf, Arf, really, can't the peeps understand what sweet Toto was saying?????
I watched the Masters wiv my Dad as well Maggie...not Mum as it did finish rather late here and she'd gone to bed. But, don't worry, when it finished I rushed upstairs and woke her up to tell her who had one...she was really pleased I woke her and told her I could tell, although my licking her face to wake her up didn't got down too well!
