Ocean?!?

Greetings to all!  It's me, Mags.  This morning, we did what we call a reverse Colbert Hills/Merced loop -- which really should then be called a Merced/Colbert Hills loop when you think about it.  Mom doesn't have coffee until after we've walked, though, so we'll let that slide.  Anyway, it was her turn to choose the route today and that's what she picked.  Basically, it gets the worst uphill climbs out of the way first.

We were finally heading downhill -- down Merced -- when ...

"Hey, we should go straight so we go past that Great Dane's house!"
"Yeah!  He always barks a greeting to us!"
"Uh... no, let's hang a left up here on Ocean."

I would call someone a 'killjoy' right now, but it was her turn to choose, so we went with it.

"Why is it called Ocean Drive if it's nowhere NEAR the Kansas Ocean?!?"
"Good question, Mags!"

Seriously - check it out:

Who comes up with these things?!?

I had one more question, as we headed down Ocean:

"And why are all of today's photos crooked?"
"And blurry?"
"Because my hands are frozen and we're going 100 miles per hour!!!!
Besides... I straightened the first one.
Sort of."

Oh.  (And yes, she has those "tech gloves" that are supposed to let her use the iPhone without taking them off, but they don't really work.)

At least we got answers to those questions, but I still think naming a street over a mile away from the Kansas Ocean "Ocean Drive" is very misleading!

Have a great Saturday!

Yours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher

  1. Your Mom deserves kudos for not having coffee before your walk...especially in the cold. But I do 'understand'.
I am a fan of street names and always wonder why, how, who named them.

  2. We think most street names don't make much sense but we agree that street is too far from the Kansas to be named Ocean.

  3. Give it time. With climate change it will be ocean front property soon.

  4. That is a silly name for the street!
