Saturday Adventure, Part 1

Greetings to all!  It's me, Mags!  Wow, did we ever have a special adventure this morning!  Instead of heading out on our walk, we all piled into the HR-V and headed to ... Fort Riley!!!  I had only been on a driving tour of Fort Riley before today, so I was stoked to do a walk there!

We started out by a great big field with a 2-mile walking trail on it.  It was so cool - so many smells, so much NEW everything!  We headed into the historic part of Main Post and walked past all kinds of interesting buildings -- offices, barracks, and houses! During Dad's first assignment to Fort Riley, Mom and Dad lived in this house on the right:

"Mom lived at Fort Riley when she was a biped puppy, too -- right, Mags?"
"Yes, but not in one of these houses!"

After tours in Alabama and Korea, Dad was reassigned to Ft. Riley - and they moved into the set of quarters next door!

"Wowzers!  What are the odds of that?!?"
"Right?!?"

Apparently, that caused some confusion for a while for both Mom and our great-brother Booter - but the worst Mom did was pull up in the wrong driveway.   Anyway ... those houses sit on Artillery Parade Field. While I   tried to snarf something   was exploring with Dad, Ragnar jumped up and struck and awesome pose:

"New statue -- what do you think, Mags?  Hey, I wonder if that Howitzer works?!?"

We kept going and eventually walked down the street that the Main Post Chapel sits on:

"Very peaceful!"
"It's beautiful!"

Here's a better shot of it:

We kept going until we hit Cavalry Parade Field (back in the 1800s, Fort Riley was home to both the US Cavalry School and the Artillery School!). Ragnar and I posed in front of a very famous statue called the Old Trooper.

I encourage you to read more about it at this post by our great-brother Dave.

Many of the Change of Command ceremonies at Fort Riley take place on Cavalry Parade Field, just behind the Old Trooper statue. Ragnar and I thought we should check out the reviewing stand.

"What a great view from up here!"
"Hi, Mom!"

Seriously. Do we look like we're reviewing the troops?!?

"Hey, Mom!"
"Pass in Review!"

She was totally unwilling to obey orders.

After that, we headed over to the museum area -- more on that tomorrow!!!  Thanks for reading!

Yours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher
