Merganser Monday

And I mean Great Mergansers, not those Common ones.  Ha roo roo roo!

Ha roo, pups and cool cats, it's me, Zim!  We're a bit late posting today due to the snow and all.  We even got about 2 inches more today - isn't that just the frosting on the proverbial cake?  Anyway, I thought we'd do two days worth of (delayed) serene scenery for you, to help you relax from all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas holidays!  Today, we'll cover a trip Mom and Dad took to Tuttle Creek State Park!

They went to the same area Mom and I went to last week and saw all kinds of beautiful birds!  There were lots of  Common  Great Mergansers swimming by, like this male

... and this female:

Do you dig her crazy hair-do as much as I do?

They also saw this Bald Eagle flying by:

I'll bet he was fishing for his dinner in the Big Blue River. I hope he caught something good!

This American White Pelican was also fishing:

"Tell Zim I said 'Honk!' "

I might know that guy.

Mom said there were lots and lots of Canada Geese doing fly-overs. Mom and Dad really love seeing them -- please click here to read why they are so special to our family.

There are a lot more photos of the geese; I'll add the link at the end of this post.

Mom and Dad also saw a Juvenile Bald Eagle:

They walked as close as they could get to him, without disturbing him.

What an awesome bird!

To wrap things up for Merganser Monday, how about a Hooded Merganser?

I think Mergansers have to have the coolest hair-dos in the entire duck world!

If you'd like to see more of Mom's photos from that trip out to Tuttle, you can see the set at this link.

Thanks for reading - I hope you feel a bit more relaxed now!

Play bows,
Zim

  1. We are sorry that you have so much snow. A few flakes and a bit of white on the grass is ENOUGH of that stuffs.
    Loved the pictures.

  5. Beautiful birds (and beautiful photos!)! And a wonderful story about Booter - I can see how geese will always be special to you! Merry Christmas (if I get "so busy" at work tomorrow that I can't stop by and say hi.... that's a joke - work should be so painfully quiet I'll be scouring the internet for updated blogs until I'm free to do - I'm covering for my co-worker, so I have to stay until 1pm)! BTW, thank you again for motivating me to get my new camera. I still don't know how to use 90% of it, but I'm having a ball, and it's fun to learn. You really were the impetus for me to start looking for a new camera, and I really can't thank you enough!
