Valentines!

Woo, everypup and everycat!  It's me, Dave!  Remember last year, Zim got a really beautiful Valentine from the even more beautiful girl Holly?!?  Well, guess what?  Holly wants to be Zim's Valentine again ... AND her sister Sprite asked to be mine!!!  Check out this card:

ValentineSH

Aren't they just gorgeous!?!? They are both former Iditarod runners and are into recreational sledding and scootering and just being the best Siberians they can be. They live in Pennsylvania now with their sister Rubi, who we've featured a couple times on the Ao4 Digest.  She's also a mighty special girl - so we told Holly and Sprite that we'd like to be Valentines with all three of them! Zim and I made this card for Rubi:

ValentineRubi

Ha woo. I love a good singer!

We heard back from all of the girls and they agreed!  We're all Valentines!  Anyway, I thought we should invite the girls out to Kansas for a nice walk in what's left of our beautiful snow:

IMG_6654 Dave
"See?  There's still some left!"

Zim thought that was a great idea, then got to work making us all a really cool snow fort for afterwards:

IMG_6649 Zim

Is he the best really cool snow fort builder or what?!?! I'm sure the girls will be impressed. I wonder how long it will take them to get here? I don't think our snow is going to hold out very long!

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone!
Luv,
Dave

What a Way To Start the Week!

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me, Zim!  We knew it was coming!  Dave and I knew!  We could smell it in the air yesterday - SNOW!  We could hardly wait - but Mom said we'd have to.  It was coming over night, and it would be there waiting for us in the morning.  Oh, pup!  Isn't that great?!?  Just like toys on Christmas morning!  Without further ado ... here I am at 0400 this morning:

IMG_6637 Zim
"C'mon, Mom!  It's four o'clock and I'm ready to rock!"

Once we got past where the lights on the front of the house helped the camera, we had to rely strictly on the power of the iPhone:

IMG_6640 Zim

Looks like night vision goggles (NVGs), doesn't it? Mom lightened it in PhotoShop. She forgot to turn the flash on. She remembered for this one:

IMG_6641 Zim
"Snow!  Lovely, fluffy snow!"

Oddly, Mom didn't seem as excited as I was, and wanted to go right back in after I did my business. Something about snow in her slippers ... 4 a.m. ... blah, blah, and blah.  Whatever.

IMG_6642 Zim
"Be back soon, snow!  Don't go anywhere!"

It was still coming down really well, as you might be able to see, so I knew I'd have even more fun later!

I gave Mom a chance to get her feet warm, then at 0500 hours, Davy got up and wanted out. Here's what he woke to:

IMG_6643 Dave

Hmm. The snow really wasn't purple (though K-State fans here probably would think that's a great idea!) - Mom tried lightening the photo up and "fixing" it in PhotoShop and ... let's just say the color's a bit off. (Note to Dave, Guide Dog for the the Color Blind: the Studio isn't the only place where Mom needs your help!)

So ... that's how our Monday started!  What fun!  It's gotten real slippery out there, though, due to a freezing drizzle that's now falling, so we don't have pix of us on our walks or playing out there.  Safety first! and all that!  Mom needed to concentrate on staying upright, not trying to shoot photos!  We'll try for some later on!

We hope your Monday has been as fun as ours so far!

Play bows,
Zim

Serene ... Sunday

Woo, everypup and everycat!  It's me, Dave, here with Serene ... Sunday.  I know we usually do Serene Scenery Sunday, but unless you count me as the Scenery ... well, anyway.  I know I felt serene down to my tummy-tum the other day after my play session/photo session in the backyard, so I thought I'd share more of those pix with you!  Are you ready for some ...

"!!!"

WUBBA?!!?

You can tell how great I felt just by looking at me, can't you?  Mom said that made her feel good, too!  See, after we played football for a while, Mom had scoped out the yard and was pretty sure none of Zim's kit-cat friends were here and there weren't any bunnies lurking about or anything, so OFF came my super-long lead, and out came the Wubba!  Mom can throw that about a mile across the yard and I just LOVE to run and bring it back!  Here are some instant replay shots of one of my long ones!  Those of you who may be going through football withdrawal this weekend might appreciate this!  Here we go!

Photo Finish Friday - FOOTBALL!

Woo, everypup and everycat - and especially my fellow football fans out there!  It's me - Dave!  Yesterday was cold, blustery and overcast, so I thought it would be great fun to take Mom into the backyard for a little one-on-one FOOTBALL!!  She took tons of pix, and I thought I'd share a few with you!  Ready?!!?

HIKE!

DSCN3035 Dave

Mom told me to go for a long one!

DSCN3029 Dave
"Got it!  Here I come!!!"

DSCN3087 Dave
"Here you go, Mom!  Throw it again!"

We did lots of throws and catches!  And run, run, RUN!

DSCN3036 Dave

There was a fumble at one point, and I had to dive on the ball!

DSCN3088 Dave

For a cool-down, I relaxed and played a different game with my football:

DSCN3108 Dave

Did I mention it SQUEAKS?!?!? Woo.  What a fun afternoon!

Luv,
Dave

PS:  Yes, even though we were in our fenced-in yard, I was trailing my long leash behind me for a while there, without Mom holding the end.  She needed to make sure there weren't any bunnies or kitty cats or anyone hiding in the yard -- she doesn't want my prey drive to take over from my play drive.  Ha woo.  I eventually got unhooked and ... see my purple Wubba in the pic above?  It was Wubba time then!!!  I'll share those photos with you soon!

Goosed!

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me, Zim!  Dave and I were tagged by our buddy Goose to answer a few questions about ourselves.  The lovely SNOW we showed you yesterday was gone by mid-day, so it's not like we're out enjoying that or anything! Good thing Mom snapped a bunch of pix when she did! Anyway ... let's get to it:

DSCN3014 Dave and Zim
Dave and me from yesterday morning.  In the snow.

1.  Describe yourself in seven words:

We're actually going to describe each other, because that's more in keeping who we are.  And of course, it's in keeping with being Siberian Huskies to already toss the rules out the window.

Dave is snuggly, talented, stubborn, stoic, generous, extraverted and brave!  OK, Dave, your turn!

OK!  Woo, everybody!  Zim is serene, adventurous, fun, silly, a dreamer, mischievous, and brave!

2.  What keeps you up at night?

I'll keep going, since Zim handed me the keyboard!  Umm... wait.  Since much nothing keeps me up at night, I don't know what keeps Zim up... so maybe I should pass it back over to him.

No problem, Dave!  Yeah, Dave's a good sleeper!  Nothing really KEEPS me up at night, per se, but I do like to get up during the night - just to take Mom out to admire the star-filled sky, to listen to the coyotes off in the distance ... or to start playing!

We'll just answer the rest for ourselves.  It's less confusing that way!

3.  Who would you like to be?

Wow.  Hard one.  As for me,

DSCN3019 Zim
Me, Zim, stalking something in the snow yesterday

... I have to say that I'm very comfortable in my own fur.  And given that Mom says I'm the best Zim she's ever known, I'll just stay with being who I am!  Dave?

Thanks, Zim.  And I have to agree, you're not only the best Zim in the world, but you're the best kid brother a guy could ask for! Mom also says I'm the best Dave she's ever known, so I think I'll stay with who I am, too!

DSCN3025 Dave
"Wait a minute.  If I'm someone else, how would I be with my mom?"

...except that sometimes I'd like to be a biped just so I can go EVERYwhere my mom goes.

4.  What are you wearing right now?

We're both wearing the latest of the collars Mom made for us (see them here) and blue Buffs.  What, Dave?  Oh... yeah, OK.  Medium blue Buffs in a bandana print.  You can kind of see mine in the second pic in this post.

5.  What scares you?

Hmm.  We're both very brave guys!  There are some things we approach with caution (strangers for me - due to my pre-adoptive life, crates with doors on them for Dave) but those things don't actually scare us.  They just give us paws.  I mean pause.  Moving right along...

6.  The best and worst of blogging.

We both agree with Goose here - the best is all the friends we've made!  We've been blogging since September of 2006, and have made so many wonderful friends!  Mom also likes to look back and have a nice journal of our lives together here at Ao4 HQs.  And yes, the worst is when we lose a friend or when someone is hurting.

7.  The last website I visited.

Well, for me, it was Mango Minster!!

DSCN2991 Zim
"This is all so exciting!!!"

Dave is helping Mom with a new post for her blog, so that's the last one he was on.

8.  What is one thing you would change about yourself?

Well, there are a lot of things Mom, Dad and I wish I hadn't had to go through, but it all makes me the pup I am today.  Dave, how about you?  Seeing as how you're the best big brother ever, I can't think of anything I'd want to change about you!

You're really the best, Zim.  Like our buddy Goose, though, maybe getting over the separation anxiety thing would be good.  Then again, maybe Mom needs me.  Woo.

9.  Slankets.  Yes or no.

We had to ask Goose what "slankets" are.  It's a blanket with sleeves - like one of those Snuggie things.  We have to say NO on this.  I mean ... you've seen our luscious coats!

10. Tell us something about the dog who tagged you.

GOOSE! We love Goose and are so glad he is blogging! He has really cool adventures in such a beautiful part of our great country! His MOM takes incredible photos along the way, so it's like we're right there with them! (Except for when he goes in the water ... then I think we'd stand on the banks cheering him on!) He writes a wonderfully inspirational blog, giving us a lot to think about.  I just know that if we met beyond the blogs, we'd be fast friends - as would our moms.  Goose is adventurous, brave, and funny and Mom thinks he is just adorable.  We feel very blessed to call him "friend"!!!

Now we're supposed to tag 8 other bloggers.  Unlike Goose, we - and Sibes in general - are not real keen on rules.  We're rather notorious for breaking them, in fact.  So PLEASE play along if you'd like to!  This was really fun, so give it a try!

Many thanks to Goose for the tag -- or is that "for Goosing us"?  Ha roo roo roo!

Another Guard Duty Shift

Ha roo, pups and cool cats.  It's me, SGT Zim!  As I showed you last Friday, I take Guard Duty mighty seriously.   I drew the stair landing post again the other day and got right to work!

IMG_6112 Zim
Me, on duty

I was working hard, when I heard someone approach!

IMG_6551 Zim & Dave
"Excuse me, Zimmie.  Can I please get past?"
"Oh, yeah!  Sure, Dave."

Oh, sure. I let him through.

IMG_6149 Zim
"THIS time!"

But only because he knew the secret password!

IMG_6527 Zim
"Halt!  Who goes there?!?"

Does anyone else dare try to get past me?!?

Musing on Monday

Ha roo, pups and cool cats.  It's me, Zim.  I was just wondering ... does anyone know what "Would you please get down so I can make the bed?" means?!?  Hmm  ... yeah...

Me, neither!

Let me know if you come up with anything.

Serene Scenery Sunday

Woo, everypup and everycat!  It's me, Dave, here with Serene Scenery Sunday.  Many of you have heard by now about the blizzard that hit the Great Plains over the last few days.  Interstate 70, our main highway, was closed from just west of us all the way to Denver!  Parts of Kansas got over 2 feet of snow!  (For our international readers, in meters that would be ... umm ... a lot of snow.)  Friends in Nebraska, just to our north, reported getting a nice, big, fluffy snowfall!  So for this week's dose of serenity, I thought I'd show you our snow pictures!

Here I am from yesterday, during the height of the storm:

IMG_6520 Dave
"Something's missing here..."

It kept going like that all through the day and into the night.  Here's Zim from this morning:

IMG_6543 Zim
"Hey!  I think I see some s... no.  Just a limestone wall."

The worst of it seems to be behind us now.

IMG_6544 Dave
" 'Great Blizzard of 2012' my left feety-feet!!!"

Yeah. I think maybe a sunset picture from a few nights ago might be a bit more serene.

IMG_6472 31 JAN12 sunset

That's better... isn't it?  There's always something beautiful out there, even if it isn't covered in a heavy blanket of snow!  Enjoy the day!

Luv,
Dave

Afternoon Adventure

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me, Zim!  A couple afternoons ago, Dave and I took Mom on a little adventure!  We were walking down this one street we normally go down, but I noticed something... different.  I told Mom and Dave that I'd go check it out!

IMG_5825 Zim
"Most peculiar..."

You can't show these things any fear. They can smell it!

Speaking of smelling...

IMG_5826 Zim
"Interesting!"

Yep. It was exactly what I thought it was.

IMG_5827 Zim
"It's OK!  It's just a giant snake all curled up for a nap!"

Have you found anything cool on your adventures lately?!!?

Guard Posts

Ha roo, pups and kit cats!  It's me, SGT Zim.  Some of you asked where I am and what I do while Dave is working in the Quilt Studio.  I have all kinds of interesting duties!

Mostly I stand guard duty - in keeping with with General Orders for Sentries:

  1. I will guard everything within the limits of my post and quit my post only when properly relieved.
  2. I will obey my special orders and perform all my duties in a military manner.
  3. I will report violations of my special orders, emergencies, and anything not covered in my instructions to the commander of the relief.

Let's take a look at a few of my guard posts!

Sometimes I stand guard on the stair landing:

IMG_5510 Zim

Sometimes my guard post is the front door:

IMG_5765 Zim

And finally, the Library!

IMG_6300 Zim

Sometimes my duties even take me into the Studio to lend a  hand  paw:

IMG_6396 Zim
"You aren't any further along than this?!?!  Let's get MOVIN'!!!"

And speaking of "moving"... sometimes I work my mind-meld message on Mom while in the Studio and let her know what she, Dave and I should really be doing!

IMG_6371 Zim and Dave
"You were ready for a little PT, weren't you, Dave?"
"Oh, Zim... you wouldn't believe the colors she was about to put together!"

Sometimes it pays for all of us to take a little break!

SGT Zim
