Serene Scenery Sunday

Woo everypup and everycat! It's me, Dave, bringing you this week's installment of Serene Scenery Sunday! Before I get started, my kid brother asked if he could say a few words. Without further a-woo, here's Zim:

Zim
Zim

Hey, pups and cool cats! I just wanted to thank all of you for stopping by and wishing me a Happy Zimaversary yesterday! I loved hearing from all of you! I was really touched that my bestest friend Huffle posted about my special day on her blog yesterday! Thanks, Huffs! And a special thanks to your kit-cat friends for stopping by! It was a pleasure to hear from each and every one of you!

OK, thanks, Dave! Back to you!

My pleasure, Zim. On to Serene Scenery Sunday!

Let's start with something that makes me feel very serene - a play session in the yard!

Dave in the garden
Me in the yard

Can you feel my serenity? Woo!

Lots of you expressed sympathy for the storm damage we suffered last weekend. We really appreciate that; fortunately the only thing we totally lost was the Smoke Tree, and there's a chance that will come back. The other trees with limb damage are doing great, and as you can see from the shot above, we still have lots of foliage!

You might also notice the upside-down tomatoes hanging on the deck. They aren't really producing. One variety was just about dead and obviously wasn't the right variety to grow upside-down. The other variety looked healthy enough that Mom didn't want to give it the heave-ho.... but she did replace that other one. "With what?" you might ask. Check it out:

Let's try these...
Husky Red Cherry Tomato plant

Yep. Husky Red. Just like Ammy and Zim recommended long ago. Hmm. Mom planted one in the upside-down thingie and one in a pot, as an experiment. The day after, as she was doing the watering, she noticed this on the older, existing plant:

Tomato!

I think it felt threatened. Ha woo!

Mom and I moved onto the middle tier for some more Wubba action.

Dave in the garden

You can see lots of our cool plants there! In the foreground are some Magic Carpet Spirea; behind them, sort of in front of me, are some Fountain Grasses. Down below are the Crape Myrtle and the three White Rose of Sharon. Want a close up of those?

Rose of Sharon bloom

Isn't it nice? White is one of Mom's favorite colors. Here's a look at the other Rose of Sharon bush:

Rose of Sharon blooms

Aren't those blooms pretty? I love the colors. Speaking of colors, that bush gets a couple different colored blooms! Check it out:

Rose of Sharon Blooms

Lavender and pink!

But anyway, I wasn't really looking at the plants in that photo above. Do you know what I was looking at? A RABBIT! In OUR yard! I dropped the Wubba and ran down there. Instead of the rabbit turning around and running two feet and slipping under the fence right there, he had to lead me on a chase through the whole garden!

We ran and ran, and I finally chased him under the fence up at the top of the yard. (Mom seemed glad the rabbit got away; can you believe that?!?)

Dave in the garden
And don't come back!

I'm sure I taught him a lesson.

Sorry... I guess I better get serene again...

Mom got caught up in our excitement and didn't take pix of our chase, but here are some other "critters" we saw out there. Here's a little sparrow:

Schputzie!

I think he was having a snack. I wonder what it was? Maybe something from the neighbors' feeder... or maybe a bug. Speaking of bugs, here's a well-camouflaged butterfly:

Butterfly on Wine and Roses Weigela

Can you see him there in the center? (Any of these pictures can be clicked and viewed in our FlickR album.) He's perched on top of one of our Wine and Roses Weigela.

Let's finish out with something that will all make us feel serene - a beautiful, colorful sunset:

15 JUL 09 sunset

Mom and I admired that off the upper deck of Ao4 HQs. Isn't it stunning? I love the yellows and oranges and reds and black.... !

Have a serene Sunday!

Luv,
Dave

  1. Mmmmm...I love tomatoes and sometimes steal them! Glad you got that rabbit out of your yard. Next time you might just have to catch it to teach it a lesson! Do you all play separately in the yard? I usually see photos of just one of you having a play session and was curious.

  9. I guess its hard to be serene and chase a rabbit at the same time. Glad you could get back into serenity though!

I was barking today and my Mom said its a parade. She was going to take me there, but after lots of barking, she changed her mind.

If you can't bark at drummers, tubas and marchers, well, what can you bark at!

    Kisses,
    Stella
