Here's what the sky to the west looked like at about 1830 (that's 6:30 p.m.):
Mom and I shot that off our upper deck. That brought some pretty wild weather in and took our electricity away for a while. Not nice! About an hour and a half later, this is what the skies looked like toward the west:
That's a panoramic shot; you can click any of these for a bigger view on our FlickR page.
The rain let up for a while, so Mom and I went out to see what was cooking up. Here's an artsy shot of me, studying the western skies from the front yard:
Then we looked north, and this is what we saw:
We walked down the street a bit, then turned toward the northeast and saw this incredible sight:
We really like that shot! Except for the photo with me in it, we did no special effects at all on these pictures - the colors are true! It's it incredible!!??
We walked back to the house after that, and headed out on the deck. Here's another look to the southwest:
That looked like another line heading our way, so we took one more picture and headed inside. Here's a look:
You can almost feel it about to hit, can't you? Well, it did, and it was quite the wild ride. That was at about 2015; it hit fast, it hit hard, but really didn't last long. By shortly after 2100, this is what the skies looked like:
I'll bet you feel serene now.... don't you!?!?
This has been your Ao4 Meteorology Moment. :)
Love,
Ammy
We're glad it's all over for you now. You make mommy nervous when bad weather hits your area! Neat-o pictures, Ammy.
ReplyDeleteWoo pups, those are great little "s" storm clouds! Our mom says she really misses those mid-west thunderstorms she grew up with... do woo think maybe she's got a screw loose? Ha-roo roo roo!

Serene?! Not hardly. Skies like that make my heart race! I'm glad you guys didn't get any tornadoes out of that one because it sure looked like a possibility to me. I need to hire you to come be my meteorologist.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots. The last one reminds of us the shots Mom takes around here. She hasn't posted any sky shots lately ... well, she hasn't posted much and she is afraid people will get tired of them. Now we think they are okay because we enjoyed yours so much!!
ReplyDeleteRoxie, Sammy & Andy
We really liked the picture to the Northeast (and the final one and the one with you in it of course). Those are some very impressive clouds.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures Ammy - not so serene as you say - well the last one was full of promise.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday

They say there is always calm after the storm... so true!
ReplyDeleteHave a great sunday!

We really like the last picture. The rest of them scare the crap out of us! Maybe you could send some of that rain to us, over here in Georgia. We haven't had a drop of rain in about a month and we're afraid they are going to start up the water restrictions again.

Poppy, Penny & Patches
Wow, what awesome pictures..I especially like the anvil, the boiling clouds and the gorgeous serenity pictures. I'm glad there weren't any of those really baaaad pictures!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! My Mom doesn't get scared of stormy weather but boy, I do. I just go and hide behind a chair, next to the wall and then I feel more safety. My Mom wants to know if you have seen those cloudy skies that look just sort of green! She says she has . .whooo, not for me!
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Stella
Wow Ammy, those are some scary clouds.
ReplyDeleteThey do make lovely shots though.

WOW those were amazing shots!
ReplyDeleteWe love to see your sky shots. Even though we are in Texas where our house is it is not flat so we can't see the range that you can. Very cool! We are glad that you didn't have any issues with those clouds.
Chasing my tale...
Addie, Lucie, and Hailey
Those clouds did not make me feel serene! I would have been huddled in the basement, not out taking pictures so you're much braver than I am! Isn't this the weekend of the band thing at RiverPond? Hope the weather was better for that.
ReplyDeleteI got so flustered seeing those storm clouds that I forgot to tell you that I have an award for you on my blog today!
ReplyDeleteThose were some nasty skies. We did get some storms that night but missed the worst of it. That last photo is just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWoos, the OP Pack
