Columbus Day 2012

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me, Zim!  Today is Columbus Day here in the US - the day we celebrate Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas!  As many of you know, I'm a huge fan of exploring and discoveries, so this is a special day for me.

I was doing a lot of thinking about Christopher Columbus while I explored the Tuttle Creek Dam/Lake/Reservoir/Ocean yesterday.  Since this is the biggest ocean in all of Kansas ... is this where he sailed into our lovely state?

"That's got to be it.  Christopher Columbus probably landed right down there!"

I couldn't help but think of the old poem:

"In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue..."

Of course, due to our drought, the ocean is 7 feet lower than it's supposed to be ... and it's not looking too blue right about now ...

"... He had three ships and left from Spain..."

"I can just picture the Niña, the Pinta and the Santa Maria out there!"

Good thing it was 1492 and not 2012.  I'd hate for Chris' ships to run aground due to how low the Tuttle Creek Dam/Lake/Reservoir/Ocean is.  If he came to Kansas today ... maybe there'd be another way in!

"Oh, YEAH!  The highway!"

Of course!!!  How does the rest of that poem go?

"... one if by land, and two if by sea!..."

How exciting!  I hope you do a lot of cool exploring and make some new discoveries today!

Play bows,
Zim

  1. Oh...I hope I get to do some exploring today too. This is the first time since July 3 that I haven't had a buddy to wrestle with in the middle of the night or to be silly with so I'm going to have to make my own trouble.

  20. This was certainly an education for me. I always thought that Columbus guy landed somewhere on the east coast, not in Kansas. Well, not too old to learn.
