I showed you some of the pix from this excursion a bit over a week ago and meant to get back to that trip. No time like the present!
Well, maybe not the same one... but you know what I mean. He looks well-protected in that dead tree, doesn't he?
We headed down the trail and stopped to admire the wildflowers.
We are fairly certain they are Western Ironweed. If anyone has a different opinion, let us know. Remember the yellow stuff I showed you? Here's some more:
Anyroo, we were feeling mighty serene, watching the birds, trying to ID some wildflowers, when I heard Mom say something that made me feel over-the-top serene! She said, "Oooh! I think that's snow on the mountain!" WHAT?!?! Snow on the mountain!?!? As many of you know, getting some mountains is right up there on my wish list with getting us an ocean here in Kansas. I couldn't believe my pointy ears when I heard we apparently not only had a mountain but there was SNOW on it! But then ... this is what Mom was looking at:
So close... yet so far! That's OK. It's still a pretty cool flower.
Let's keep walking, shall we?
Here's a little Kansas sunflower for you:
Are you feeling serene now? Ready to head home?
oh yes, certainly I found my Happy Place when I found your blog post Zim!
ReplyDeleteHow I laughed at you having snow on the mountain!
We have a plant here called Snow In Summer, it is so easy to get confused isn't it?
Jeannie thought the Goldenrod looked a bit like the stuff we see in a field near here........it is called Ragwort and is poison to horses. Perhaps it looks like Goldenrod though.
Phew, I must go lie down, not only am I first too comment it seems today, but all this research has made me a very tired Marvin.
My brain can only take so much you know!
Thank you for a lovely serene post.
Your friend, Marvin xxxx
Hi Zim
ReplyDeleteAll the pictures are beautiful and evoke a feeling of peace.
For us the favourite has to be the sunflower - this is our mum's all time favourite flower.
It just exudes happiness somehow.
We have no success in growing them whatsoever!
The meadowlark was pretty - we take it they sing nicely!
Lovely Sunday post.
love

What a great post, Zim!! Mom and I (especially Mom), love wildflowers and wild birds. We don't have meadowlarks here in the Chicago suburbs, and have never seen snow-on-the-mountain flowers before. Thanks for sharing your finds with us!
ReplyDeleteIt's about 97 degrees here (and humid) so we're staying inside today.
Teddy
Thanks, Zim...you sure made us wish after the wilds. And...for a moment we were getting all excited about the mountain and the snow!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful scenery! You certainly live in a serene place! Wish we were there.

What a lovely, serene post. Mom says nothing about us is serene unless we are sleeping. Can you believe she would say something like that about us? Well, anyway, after your pictures, she is nice and relaxed.

Thanks for taking us to such a happy and serene place Zim! Are you the only Sibe that is lucky enough to visit the Top of the World? It sure is a special place for you and your mom to go and we love seeing all the sights!
ReplyDeleteYour Mom shouldn't tease you so about mountains and especially not about snow!! I've seen snow I think twice in my entire life so it's a real treat for me.
ReplyDeleteStorm
Thanks for the tour. I especially liked that meadowlark.

ReplyDeleteHey Zim, Nice to meet you buddy! That Goldenrod looks suspiciously like Yellow Tansey, which is an invasive, noxious weed here in N. Idaho! It is poison so none of the wildlife can eat it and it takes over!! Pretty, but awful!

Too bad there wasn't some real snow on that mountain, we would hike up there to get cooler. Nothing but hot hot hot here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for some beautiful photos on Sunday.
woos, the OP Pack
We are feeling Serene from here, but if we were really there, Mom would be feeling really allergic!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the Ironweed couldn't be the Spotted Joe Pye Weed. It leafs in four or five and it looks like the Ironweed did a two leaf.
ReplyDeleteIt was hard to tell from the picture.
Kisses,
Stella
That was a lovely walk and a lovely showing you did for us there Zim.. I enjoyed seeing your lovely scenery. Thanks for showing us..

Hi AO4,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Benson. My new human said I should say hello to you because you all are very cool. I hope we can be friends.
I was scared to leave a comment because I am just a puppy, I dont quiet understand all the rules yet, but he said if I just tell you his name is Greg, that you would understand, and be my friend.
I hope we can be friends because you are really cool.
And I think I am in the Army too because I have a collar that says "Air Force"! My new humans bought it for me, and I will wear it when I go to my Furever home on Friday!
I hope I can be cool like you guys!
Luv Benson
