Is that OK with everybody? OK, let's get to the photos.
Apparently, when Mom and her friend pulled in and parked, Mom jumped out of the car right away and ran down to the water. Why? Because she saw this guy swimming by:
American White Pelican |
You know, since that's what she was hoping to get to photograph, you'd think she could have just come back home to me and Zim ...
Mom and her friend went into those cool woods Zim showed you the other day, in search of other birdies. They didn't find the ones they were looking for, but they did see this little guy:
Eastern Bluebird |
Yep. The Bluebird of Happiness! So ... they turned to head back the other way and Mom stopped to take another shot:
Umm ... is it just me, or are those not birds? In fact, they look an awful lot like Border Collies to me! Hmm ...
Moving right along ...
Mom and her friend moved down to another area and were thrilled to see this guy:
Great Blue Heron |
Isn't he cool? Let's just sit back and look at some of the pix Mom snapped of him:
♩"... Wade in the water ..." ♫ |
OK... sorry. Shh!
He posed for a while, then flew off -
Speaking of flying ... here's a pelican in flight!
They got as close as they could to the secret Pelican hangout. Or something like that.
The pelicans share that area with some gulls.
Let's go in for a close-up!
There was one pelican off to one side, just hanging with the gulls. Check them out:
Zim and I like the gull in the center of this next shot:
The one in the water, to the left of the log. He looks like he's cracking up over a joke somegull just told him!
Back to that one pelican! Here he is with his (wait for it...)
A pelican and his ... gull friend |
... his gull friend. Ha woo. Get it?
I don't think other gulls would mess with that gull while the pelican is around!
Here they are again:
"I ❤ my gull-friend!" |
That's all I've got for you today. Tune back in tomorrow to the Army of Birds Digest to see more birdies!
Have a serene Sunday, everyone!
Luv,
Dave
HEY BUDDY.... you furgot to tell us if it is normal fur the pelicans to be there? We have seen ALL those other birds this far north... butt NEVER a Pelican. THAT is super cool.
ReplyDeleteThose are some super duper shots. Gull-friend. oh I busted a gut over that one. Bawhahhaha. They make quiet the pair. And those rare collie birds, Ooooo that is a very rare shot. And be so close to them. Your mom is very brave. I hear they like to round up and herd things.

We are just loving the birdie pictures! We have herons here. They eat the fishies in our pond. Mom loves watching them fly with their legs trailing along underneath them. She thinks it's funny.

Hey Zim my mom says those are all fantastic pictures even if you aren't in any of them. I still say it isn't fair that those other doggies get to go and you don't.

HAHA Army of Birds!
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or did those dogs lose their human? I mean...is she just out there running around without supervision? Humans of other breeds just must be more responsible I guess.

Hey Dave! Those are some awesome pictures!! Guess what I saw today!?! A pair of Canadian geese on our pond. We've never seen them there before. They must be talking to those Kansas birdies!!
ReplyDelete-Bart
Wow, your mom is taking some cool photos. We saw some of the same birds today...no pelicans, but did have 2 canada geese on our pond, the blue birds are back and the GBH was on frog patrol ALL day on the end of the pond. Spring is here!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird photos! (Although we can't believe your Mom had the nerve to take pictures of OTHER doggies!) But those pictures are fantastic! Mom looks at them longingly, wishing she had the patience and skill to get photos like that!

OK, Dave, the one thing I thought you would say (for sure!) and you didn't is to repeat that old poem about:
ReplyDeleteBehold the Mighty Pelican,
His beak holds more
than his Belly can!
I think thats Ogden Nash who wrote that about 87 years ago. Cool though, isn't it?
Cheers,
Stella
Beautiful. We love seeing all those birds. White pelicans are rare around here
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patrick's Day
