Sunrise at the KSO |
That's me down in the left-hand corner. Oh, and Mom did some crazy lomo camera effect thing. But the point is -- look at all those quackers out there!!! The bird migration has started and some of our Winter friends are coming back to Kansas! This photo prompted Mom to do exactly what I'd hoped it would -- she and I headed back to the Kansas Ocean for a little adventure!
When we got there, I had a good look around:
"Ha roo? It's me, Zim! Is anybirdie home?" |
I had a good look around. I was hoping to see some of my goose or duck friends - maybe that tiny Grebe Mom and I saw last week or so! Mom and I didn't see anyone at first, then she noticed me staring way across the water like this:
"Ha roo!" |
Mom zoomed in with her camera to see if she could see what I did. (As an aside, if there are any inventors out there reading, Mom would like someone to come up with a pair of high-powered binoculars with a built-in camera. Seriously - how cool would that be? Oh. And I get a 25% cut of the sales profits for putting the idea out there, if anyone comes through with it.) Anyway - look at who we saw!
Yes! A Great Blue Heron! Look at how still the water is! It's like glass! And since you can see right through glass, I'll bet it makes for good fishing!
Got it! |
If you look closely, you can see that he caught a little fishie! Way to go, buddy!
"Is that guy a great fisherbird or what?!?!" |
We just loved watching him fish! There are two more pix of him in our Flickr account, here and here.
On our way home, we ran into this guy and his family:
"Are you lookin' at me?" |
We didn't want to disturb him, so we just took a couple photos, then headed home.
I can't wait to see who all visits the KSO this Winter! Thanks for coming on my cool adventure with me!

HEY Zim.... on your next adventure have your mom and dad take you to a big HUNTIE FISHIE Store place... THEY DO have Binoculars with Cameras now.
ReplyDeletethe BESTEST ones are kinda pricey though.
Hi Zim, Great area for adventures! Love the Blue Heron-we get them here too. I'm surprised that our Pelicans have stayed so long this year. Please share wags with your family from us.

I'm glad that the GBH was able to catch some breakfast. But hey, tell Tom that he might need to lay low for a while -- there's a certain "holiday" coming up this month that is pretty dangerous for his family!
