Serene Scenery Monday - Back to the KSO!

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me - Zim!  As I mentioned the other day, I took Mom on two bird-watching trips to the Kansas Ocean last week.  It was so relaxing and we had such a serene time that I thought I would do a delayed "serene" post this week.  Why not head back to the KSO now and take a look!?!  We saw totally different ducks that time and we need your help IDing one of them!  Grab a bowl of water and some coffee for your biped and let's go birding!

As always, I had a good look around when we got there:

It was a bit breezy, as you can tell from my fur!

We saw Blue Winged Teals again!

Then I saw my favorite ducks!

See the resemblance?

We also saw these guys!

Ring-Necked Ducks!

We do believe they're Ring-Necked Ducks!  (Check this link.)  Aren't they cool?  Here are some more pix of them:

Here's one swimming with some Redheads and friends!

Mom is trying to ID the duck in the upper right-hand corner of that photo above.

"Ha roo?"

Let's zoom in - check the upper right in these pix:

Sort of a coppery-brown head with a white dot by his bill.  If you have any ideas, please let us know!

I made sure to scan the whole ocean, checking for more ducks:

That's one of the cool things about the Kansas Ocean - you can pretty much take in the whole thing from one vantage point.  Not all oceans are like that!

"Front and center, Mom!  More Redheads!"

Be sure to check the upper left-hand corner of the photo above!  Dive!  Dive!  Dive!  Ha roo roo roo!  I hope he got something tasty!

After we'd been there a while, the ducks must have had their fill of being at the KSO and took off:

I wished them a good afternoon ...

"Fly safe!  See everyduck again soon!"

... then Mom and I headed home, too.

I hope you enjoyed coming to the ocean with us.  For more pix of the birds we saw, please visit our FlickR set Birds!

Play bows,
Zim

  1. Oh Zim, I liked seeing the ducks, especially the redheaded ones, but I think YOU'RE the handsomest redhead out there.

  2. Do you think you can give some tips to the Homeowner's Association of Webster Manor some tips on how to keep the algae out of the Kansas Ocean?

They dump a bunch of chemicals into ours and it makes it so so so so so gross and stuff grows anyway. We hate it.

  3. I love tagging a long ducking with you Zim. Your mom sure can take some awesome photos of the birdies. Of course I know you are a big part of her getting so many good shots. They all want to come on over and say quack at you.
    Blessings,
    Gosoe.

Great to go bird watching with you. Til the next one.

  13. Hi Zim, I love your duck pictures. I think your mystery duck is a female Lesser Scaup. If you scroll down to the pictures at the bottom of this page ( http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Lesser_Scaup/id ) you can see the middle picture looks a lot like your mystery duck
