What is a Sitzbank?

Or should I say, "Was ist ein Sitzbank?"

Ha roo, pups and cool cats.  It's me, Zim.  Over here.

Yep.  On Guard Duty.  On the sitzbank.

I was wondering what to post today, then I remembered a comment from our friend Frankie the other day.  He asked what the name "sitzbank" means.  What a great question.

"This is a sitzbank!"

See this piece of furniture I'm laying on?  This is the sitzbank.

IMG_0467 Zim

Oh... err... yeah.  It's furniture...

...which technically (in this house) means I'm not allowed on it.  (Dave and I are only allowed on the bed.)  (Technically.)

"Sitzbank" is German for "bench", and since Mom and Dad bought it in Germany ... they still call it the sitzbank.  It's a basic hinged-seat bench, with storage underneath the seat.

Mom covered some seat cushions for it a couple years ago ...

... making it nice and comfy.

Err ... not that I'd know ... since I'm not allowed up there.

And that's the story of the sitzbank, Frankie!  Thanks for asking.  And remember - no dogs allowed on the sitzbank!

"What?!?"

What?!?  I'm not a dog; I am a Siberian Husky.

Play bows,
Zim

  1. Glad to see that you follow the rules. You are as well trained as some dachshunds I know.

  2. We also subscribe to the "we are not dogs, we are Siberian Huskies" philosophy. That's why Kat doesn't like dogs but she likes Siberian Huskies.

  4. Technically, a bench can also be a place to keep dogs and cats when not being shown... So we think you should be allowed up on it!

  6. Zim, I think if your mom didn't want you up on there then she shouldn't have put the sitzbank were you could look out the front windows. It is the perfect spot to keep watch over what is going on out front.

  7. Hows a guy suppose to be on guard duty for as long as you are with out having somewhere to sit now and then. I think it is in the Husky Labor Laws. I'd look it up if I were you.

  8. Not your fault - it is in such a great spot by the front door that it is just begging to be sat on. :)

  15. Oh, so that's what a sitzbank is! Looks perfectly sized for Siberians, though. I think Siberian s must be the exception to that no-dogs-on-the-sitzbank rule. (There's always an exception.)

  23. These photos are so beautiful. I love the sitzbank. Your peeps have been all over the world. It must be a fun life.

I've got a technical Q for your mum. Can you pls pass it to her? Does she take all these wonderful photos using her iphone? My mum just got me an older version of iphone, the 3GS. Do you know if this model takes nice photos like yours? I really only need a smartphone to take nice photos for my blog and use GPS so I won't get lost. WIsh I have a Sib husky with me. We can just smell our way to everywhere, right?
