Bart the Bat

Ha roo, everypup! Zim here. Please see yesterday's post from Stormy - we've updated the list of Troopers in the Ao4. I will continue to add to that page, if more recruits step forward. I also made quite the lengthy comment, on Stormy's behalf.

On to today's topic! Did you see our biped friend Tierre's blog yesterday? He posted about a couple in upstate New York who found 3,500 pounds of bat guano and dead bats in their attic. Wowzers! I told Tierre we have a bat friend here!

We have two decks on the back of our house. Our bat friend hangs out (ha roo roo roo) on the under-side of the upper deck. He leaves some of his "guano" on the lower deck ... quite possibly making it a ... yes, Amber, I'll say it ... a poop deck. Ha roo roo roo. Here's our deck set up:

And here's a shot of our friend - we've named him Bart.

That picture is from last year. Can you see him in there? He's hanging upside down, like bats like to do. I highlighted his hiding place. Hi, Bart! We haven't seen him this year yet ... but we've seen his ... calling card, let's say. You know what I mean. Remember, this is a family-friendly blog.

We call him our friend because the "average" brown bat can eat 1,200 mosquito-sized insects per hour. Bart is a flying bug whacker! And you know how I feel about bugs! He's a real handy guy to have hanging around.

Play bows,
Zim

  5. My Mom said we had a bat once. He got inside our house. Mom wasn't amused. Dad caught him and put him in a paperbag to take him outside. Just so happened we were waiting for the tooth fairy to come that night. He peeked into the bag in front of our boy and said "OOPS! I caught the toothfairy!". It made our boy cry. Silly Dad.

  7. That is so cool! I wish I could have my own personal bat named Bart! Lucky Zimmie!

By the way....I TOTALLY do the behind-the-chair trick in the house! It's a big la-z-boy and NOBODY can catch me! You just have the best ideas!

  8. I haven't seen any bats around here. But my human use to have them where she lived in Minnesota. That's the mosquito capital of the U.S., so bats are very welcome there! Mom says mosquitos are also their state bird!? :-)

  10. YUK!!! We have bats that live behind a shutter on our house. Before we screened off our chimney and plugged up the fireplace openings in the summer, they were coming in and mom was FURIOUS! We don't care how many bugs they eat. We don't like them. How about if I pack up their little bat suitcases and send them to your house!

    Love ya lots,
    Maggie

  11. My Mom is a weenie just like Peanut's Mom. When we're over at Grandma's and she hears a bat, she hides in the house. Dad has tried to explain the benefits of bat and bug removal, but Mom says she doesn't care. She REALLY hates mice (that's why I have a cat brother) and she says bats are flying mice.

  14. Hey Zimmie, Eva here. We have bats around here, but we aren't as lucky as you to have one make our home theirs! Hope Bart doesn't make too big of a mess on your deck. Do you think Bart will bring home a lady bat and make baby bats? You might have a whole new family at your house! Belly Rubs, Eva.
P.S. We have begun to procure some gear for AO4 Trooper missions!

  15. Hey guys, I know you don't know me at all, but I've stopped by your blog before and I know you live in Kansas, so I was wondering if you're all ok after the tornado? Do you live anywhere near the town where it happened?

    Woo Zim...
I did one of those mapquest things.. and it told me you are about 4 hours from Greensburg! I am so relieved!

And to answer your question on my blog of my pool and zoomies, YES, I really was looking for you. Mom will ask me now, "Where is Zim?" and I run to the window to look out.

    Hugs, Sitka

  19. We also looked to see how close you were to Greensburg. We are glad you are not in the area but we are sad about for the people that do live there.

  20. Oh I was worried you guys were near that tornado in Kansas! Mom used to live in Topeka as a little girl and remembers going down in the basement listening to the radio whenever they had a tornado coming through...

We have bats that fly around at night in the summer. I don't know where they live but one got stuck in the garage one time and pooped on Mom's truck. Ew!

That Army of Four sounds cool! Can you use an Army of Four Sheep? We certainly look like them being Bedlingtons! We can pose as sheep and confuse the enemy..

  24. Peanut: Our mom loves guys like this - as long as they're OUTSIDE friends!

Steve & Kat: He's kinda cute, actually!

    Echo: Ooops! Silly dad!

Marley: I'd love to hang out with him! Ha roo roo roo!

Holly: Your mom is funny! :)

Joe: Maybe they're hanging around and you just haven't seen them yet!

Maggie: That'd be COOL! Send 'em over. But Mom says they have to be outdoor pets.

Kaos: Bats are cool - really! If you send your mom to that hyperlink, she can learn all kinds of cool bat stuff!

Bella: No matter what you call them, a bug is still a bug! I like that "mozzie" word though!

Tasha & Eva: I've actually heard Mom talk to Bart, telling him to invite his friends over for a mosquito-feast ... but we've never seen him with a lady bat. That'd be cool!
Can't wait to see your gear!

Suki: What a sweet pup you are! Thanks for your concern!!! We are all safe and appreciate your concern!

Sitka: Thanks for worrying about us! Hey, yeah - come on over and meet Bart! Then when your mom says, "Where's Zim?" you can grab me by the neck and throw me at her!

Tierre: Glad you could see him! We'll try to get a better picture this year, but he likes it where it's dark!!!

Dachsies: Thank roo - and same here!!

Butchy & Snickers: Bart is a lean, mean (not really), bug-eating machine! Ha rooo! That's cool that you have bats, too!

Rudy: Thank roo! You're very kind! And YES, we'd love to add you and your fellow Bedlington's to the Ao4! We'll update the list to include you soon! COOL!

Opy: Thank roo, bee-roo-tiful Miss Opy! We're all A-OK!

Tasha & Eva: "Rear Admiral"? Ha roo roo roo! Good one! And yes, it's very sad for the residents of Greensburg!

Ivy: You need a good hidy place for the bats! You can even buy little bat-houses for them! Then they'll live there and eat all the bugs for you!

    Play bows, everypup!
    Zim
